LLCC: Loggers Split Opening Day Against #18

 

Game 1 – St. Johns River

The Loggers effort to come back from down six runs in the third inning came up just short, as they fell 6-5 to St. Johns River State College on Thursday at St. Johns River State College. The Loggers closed the gap by scoring on a solo home run, a home run, and a home run. A single by Alyssa Vallad put St. Johns River State College on the board in the bottom of the first. Carley Jagiello homered to center field, scoring three runs in the bottom of the second for the St. Johns River State College. St. Johns River State College added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Izzy Lewis hit into a fielder’s choice, and the Loggers committed an error, each scoring one run.

The Loggers made the score 6-3 in the top of the fifth inning when Sage Carr hit a solo home run to center field, and Sydney Glick homered to center field, scoring two runs. Allie Dolenc homered to center field, scoring two runs in the top of the sixth for the Loggers.

Vallad earned the win for St. Johns River State College. The starting pitcher allowed six hits and five runs over five and two-thirds innings, striking out seven and walking one. Maranda File took the loss for the Loggers. They went four innings, surrendering six runs (three earned) on six hits, striking out none and walking one. Glick, Destiny Loeb, Emmy Renfro, Carr, Ryleigh Davidson, and Dolenc each collected one hit for the Loggers. Glick and Dolenc each drove in two runs for the Loggers. Jagiello, the number nine hitter for St. Johns River State College, led the way with three runs batted in. The infielder went 1-for-2 on the day. Olivia Hansen went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead St. Johns River State College in hits. St. Johns River State College worked the count all day, accumulating four walks. St. Johns River State College were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Princess Arredondo made the most plays with nine.

Game 2 – St. Johns River

Emmy Renfro drove in four runs on two hits to lead the Loggers past St. Johns River State College 12-11 on Thursday at St. Johns River State College. Renfro doubled in the first inning, scoring two runs, and hit a home run to left field in the third inning, scoring two. Bats blistered as the Loggers collected 10 hits and St. Johns River State College tallied 14 in the high-scoring game.

The Loggers jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Sage Carr drew a walk, scoring one run, Renfro doubled, scoring two runs, and Kaylee Yost doubled, scoring two runs. St. Johns River State College scored two runs in the bottom of the first on a home run to left field by Princess Arredondo. The Loggers scored two runs in the top of the third on a home run to left field by Renfro. St. Johns River State College scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth on a home run to left field by Alyssa Vallad.

Four more Loggers runs crossed the plate in the seventh inning to extend the lead to 12-7. Maranda File homered to center field, scoring two runs, an error scored one run, and Sydney Glick singled, scoring one run.

Bailey Teasley earned the win for the Loggers. The righty surrendered 10 hits and seven runs (six earned) over six innings, striking out three and walking two. Brooke Strickland took the loss for St. Johns River State College. The starting pitcher went two innings, giving up five runs on three hits, striking out three and walking four. Kylan Arndt appeared in relief for the Loggers.

Glick, Renfro, and Yost each collected two hits for the Loggers. Glick paced the Loggers with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, amassing seven walks for the game.

St. Johns River State College tallied 14 hits in the game. Caylee Elder went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead St. Johns River State College in hits.

Vallad provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led St. Johns River State College with four runs batted in. The infielder went 3-for-5 on the day. Kendall Catherwood and Arredondo each collected multiple hits for St. Johns River State College. St. Johns River State College had patience at the plate, piling up four walks for the game. St. Johns River State College ran wild on the base paths, collecting four stolen bases for the game. St. Johns River State College turned one double play in the game.
