Scholar Athlete of the Year 2021-2022

This year at the Channel1450 Awards we were happy to announce the Scholar Athlete of the Year thanks to Neuhoff Media, The Orthopedic Center of Illinois, and Trinity in Taylorville. This award recognizes a college-bound high school senior who is a standout academically and in the field.  Nominees for this award not only demonstrate excellence in both the classroom and on the field, but their extracurricular endeavors and volunteerism also make them positive models for their peers.

This year’s award recipient was Sophia Beem of Springfield High School. Her list of accolades is long and distinguished.  Among the most notable, she maintained a class rank of 3 out of 325 with a weighted GPA of 6.14.  Her academic achievement is further evidenced by her selection as an Illinois State Scholar and honorary distinction as an AP scholar in 5 courses.  She is also an acclaimed member of the musical arts, earning titles as an All-State Concert Band Recipient and Illinois Music Education Association Musician.  She demonstrates a commitment to our local community as a volunteer for St. Martin DePorres and Springfield Art Association, as well as serving as a referee for youth soccer.

As Scholar Athlete of the Year, Sophia was awarded a $3,000 scholarship. Thanks again to Neuhoff Media, The Orthopedic Center of Illinois, and Trinity in Taylorville for presenting this award.

Below Sophia’s soccer coach, tennis coach, and Nation Honor Society advisor discuss her role as a leader and student athlete.
