LLCC: Lincoln Land Softball Split On Opening Day

Game 1 – St. Charles Community College

The bottom of the lineup helped the Loggers capture an 8-5 victory over St. Charles Community College on Sunday. Bridgette Royer, Charlie Hayes, and Macy Pierce combined for six of the team’s 11 hits in the victory. They scored one run and drove in four. The Loggers jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after an error scored one run, Ryleigh Davidson drew a walk, scoring one run, Maranda File singled, scoring two runs, and Hayes doubled, scoring one run. St. Charles Community College scored one run in the top of the third on a solo home run to center field by Lucy Fajatin. St. Charles Community College tied the game up in the top of the sixth thanks to two home runs. St. Charles Community College tied the game at five on a solo home run to left field by Grace Reinebach.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Loggers broke up the tie when Hayes doubled, scoring two runs. Then a double by Pierce followed to extend the lead to 8-5. Bailey Teasley opened the game for the Loggers. The right-handed pitcher allowed five hits and two runs over five innings, striking out five and walking three. Kaylen Grammer stepped in the circle first for St.Charles Community College. They surrendered 11 hits and eight runs (seven earned) over six innings, striking out nine and walking five. Kaylee Yost threw one inning of shutout ball for the Loggers in relief. The right-handed pitcher surrendered one hit, striking out none and walking none.

The Loggers amassed 11 hits in the game. The Loggers Hayes made the most of their chances at the plate. The number seven hitter led the team with three hits in four at bats. Sydney Glick and Royer each collected multiple hits for the Loggers. Sage Carr led the Loggers with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up five walks for the game. The Loggers ran wild on the base paths, collecting three stolen bases for the game.

Brooke Scott, the number nine hitter for St. Charles Community College, led the way with two runs batted in. The center fielder went 2-for-3 on the day. Reese Smith, Scott, and Fajatin each collected two hits for St.Charles Community College. Fajatin led St. Charles Community College with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing four walks for the game.

Game 2 – St. Charles Community College

The Loggers could not keep up with St. Charles CommunityCollege 6-2 on Sunday. A walk by Amelia Telger put the Loggers on the board in the bottom of the second. Emily Geary singled, which helped St. Charles Community College tie the game at one in the top of the third. The Loggers took the lead in the bottom of the third. Emmy Renfro singled, scoring one run, to give the Loggers  the upper hand, 2-1. Mackenzie Hurst scored after tagging up, which helped St. Charles Community College tie the game at two in the top of the fourth. A home run to left field by Geary gave St. Charles Community College the lead, 4-2, in the top of the fifth.

Kaylee Yost stepped in the circle first for the Loggers. They surrendered four hits and four runs (three earned) over five innings, striking out five and walking four. McKenna Dydell started in the circle for St. Charles Community College. The starting pitcher allowed three hits and two runs (one earned) over three innings, striking out one and walking one. Andee Brown and Renfro each collected two hits for the Loggers. Renfro went 2-for-3 at the plate as the outfielder led the team with one run batted in.

Jarah Hoffmann and Geary each collected three hits for St. Charles Community College. Geary provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led St. Charles Community College with three runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 3-for-4 on the day. Hurst paced St. Charles Community College with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating four walks for the game. Grace Reinebach stole two bases.

St. Charles Community College stole four bases in the game. St. Charles Community College turned one double play in the game.

Loggers Softball 2024 will travel to St. Johns River State College for their next game on Thursday.
