Trinity In Taylorville Prime Time Performer: January 8-13

Here are this week’s candidates for the Trinity Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Taylorville Prime Time Performer.

Lucas Bixby (New Berlin Boys Basketball) The Pretzels took home a second place finish from the Sangamon County Tournament last week. Bixby was one of three New Berlin players named to the all tournament team. He scored 10 points in a semifinal win against Williamsville and also scored 14 in their opening game against Pleasant Plains. Ki’on Carson (Lincoln Boys Basketball) The Lincoln Railers are now 6-1 in the Central State Eight after a 55-54 win over Lanphier on Friday night. Carson went to the free throw line in the final seconds of the game and made two shots to secure the victory for the Railers. He also led the way with a team high 14 points in the win. Kloe Froebe (Lincoln Girls Basketball) The Railers traveled to Normal on Tuesday night to take on Normal Community in a battle between two state ranked teams. Lincoln is ranked #1 in 3A while the Ironmen are #4 in 4A. It was the Railers who took home a 67-29 victory behind 29 points from Froebe. She also scored 21 points in the first quarter for a game high 30 points against Lanphier on Saturday, Highlights of the victory over Normal Community HERE.

Karlie Hoke (PORTA Girls Basketball) The Lady Jays are one of two remaining Sangamo teams who are unbeaten in conference play this season. Hoke scored 13 points in a win over Maroa Forsyth at home on Tuesday. She then followed it up with a game high 16 points, including eight in the second, in a win at Riverton on Thursday. Carter Hunley (Auburn Boys Basketball) The Trojans are Sangamon County Champs for the first time since 1986! Hunley was named to the all tournament team and scored 10 points in the championship game against New Berlin. He also went 12 for 14 at the free throw line in an opening game victory over Riverton. Bailey Leach (Pleasant Plains Girls Basketball) The other unbeaten team in Sangamo play is the Pleasant Plains Cardinals. Leach finished with double digit points in both of their wins last week. On Monday against Williamsville, she had eight first quarter points and three 3s on the way to a game high 21 points. Leach then added 13 points with two 3s in a win over Illini Central on Thursday. Myles Montgomery (Sacred Heart Griffin Boys Basketball) A quality non-conference win on the road for the Cyclones last week. They traveled north to Bloomington Central Catholic to take on the Saints and it was Montgomery who secured the win. He made a go ahead layup with 4.2 seconds left for the 66-64 victory. Alexis Neumann (Glenwood Girls Basketball) The Titans traveled to Harris-Stowe University to play in the Sweet Hoops Showcase on Saturday. Neumann finished with a double double of 22 points and 14 rebounds in a 63-49 victory over Ladue. She was also named game MVP for her performance.

Sam Owens (MacArthur Boys Basketball) The Generals stay unbeaten in conference play with a 47-46 overtime victory in Chatham on Friday night. Owens had all five of his points in the overtime period but they were some of the most important points. He picked up a steal, layup and foul late in OT and proceeded to convert the and one for a 46-44 lead. You can see highlights of that General’s victory HERE.

Kat Springer (Olympia Girls Basketball) The Spartans picked up an overtime Sangamo win at home on Monday. Springer was the leaded scorer for Olympia in the 57-54 win over overtime with 17 points.
