Prime Time Performer: April 24 – 29

Here are this week’s candidates for Prime Time Performer.

You can vote once every 12 hours until the polls close on Friday at 5 p.m.

The winner will receive a $20 gift card to Mariah’s Restaurant.

Jenna Wilson (Glenwood Soccer) The Titans were able to come back twice on Friday night to give them a chance to beat Prospect in penalty kicks. That just meant the pressure was on Jenna Wilson to come up with a save against the Knights. She not only did that once, but twice. Wilson saved two out of the four shots that Prospect took to give Glenwood the 4-2 win in penalty kicks.

Patrick Hegland (Williamsville Baseball) No matter who they are playing this season, someone seems to step up at the right time. On Friday in their Sangamo game against Riverton, Patty Hegland went 3 for 4 with a double, two runs scored and he drove in five runs. The Bullets beat Riverton 9-4 to stay in the conference race if Maroa-Forsyth stumbles down the stretch.

Adam Deal (Morrisonville Baseball) There is a 1A team at the southern-most point of our coverage area that is quietly winning some big games this season and will be a tough out in the postseason. The Mohawks junior pitcher Adam Deal is a big reason why and he showed that last week when he struck out 12 in a complete game win over state ranked Okaw Valley, giving up just four hits and two runs.

Amber Ogden (Southeast Softball) Kicking off the City softball series, the Spartans split with Lanphier last week. In their second game against the Lions, Southeast lost but not because of the effort of Amber Ogden. Southeast’s Ogden went 3 for 4 with two home runs and drove in six of her team’s seven runs. Southeast did win the first game 14-4 and Ogden hit a home run in that games and drove in three runs.

Reagan Miles & Ali Bortmess (Rochester softball) While everyone expected the Rockets to win the series and stay undefeated in the CS8 last week, Rochester still impressed in their sweep of Eisenhower. In the first game Reagan Miles threw a five inning perfect game striking out six. Then Ali Bortmess took over on the mound and she threw a one-hit shutout, striking out eight in a 13-0 win. So in ten innings and two wins, Rochester gave up one hit to the Panthers. No matter who you play, that’s impressive.

Emma Stone (PORTA softball) It’s not too often you see a softball player blast two home runs. PORTA’s Emma Stone did that in consecutive innings last week to power the Bluejays to a come from behind victory. Stone hit a two run blast in the sixth and then came up in the seventh and hit a three run homer to push PORTA past Riverton for a 10-9 win.

Faith Washko (SHG soccer) The top of the CS8 is as close as ever for girls soccer this season. Glenwood needed overtime to beat SHG earlier in the year and now the Cyclones knock off previously unbeaten Springfield High with a golden goal from a freshman!? Faith Washko hit a beautiful shot from about 25 yards out just three minutes into overtime to send SHG by the Senators last Tuesday.

Tessie Naumovich (Rochester soccer) The Lady Rockets struggled in the SHG tournament but appear to be heading back in the right direction as the matchup with Glenwood looms on Tuesday. Rochester beat Eisenhower easily last week thanks to four goals from Tessie Naumovich. She followed that up with the team’s only two goals against Metamora in a 2-0 road win.

Ozzy Erewele (Springfield High Track) We were going to try and find a reason to not put Ozzy on the list this week, but she did it again. The Senators junior sprinter ran in four races at the 2017 girls City track meet and crossed the finish line first in all four. Ozzy won the 100 (12.39), the 200 (25.20) and anchored the 4×100 (47.98) and the 4×200 (1:43). What will she do next? Find out on Thursday at the girls CS8 meet.

Austin Chapman (SHG Baseball) Chappy hasn’t started many games this season so when he got the chance, he capitalized. SHG senior thrower Austin Chapman pitched a two hitter while striking out eight and taking a perfect game into the fifth inning to start the City series in impressive fashion. SHG won the game 7-0 against Springfield High and that powered them to the sweep on Wednesday where their bats came alive. There isn’t a team in central Illinois that wants to see Chapman take the mound against them in the regional in a month.

Payton Long (Williamsville Softball) The Williamsville Lady Bullets remain the top team in 2A in the state of Illinois. Last week they tested themselves against the 4A SHG Cyclones and came away victorious yet again. Pitcher Payton Long threw a complete game, allowing just five hits and one earned run while striking out seven Cyclones. The Bullets won the game 2-1 to keep their losses on the season at a mere total of just one.

Olivia Carter (Pleasant Plains Softball) Does getting a Ten Question Tuesday give you super powers? About an hour after filming her Ten Question Tuesday last week, Pleasant Plains’ Olivia Carter went off against Mt. Pulaski. Carter threw a no-hitter while striking out 13 Hilltoppers in Plains’ 16-0 win. She also drove in five runs with two doubles. Coaches are going to be asking for their players to get a TQT in the next few weeks if that keeps up!
