Nic Laird led the Warriors with 14 as Athens took a 27-15 lead into the seconds half. Tri-City would take a two point third quarter lead but a late jumper by Sam Roat gave the Warriors a 32-20 lead headed into the fourth. Athens would hold off the Tornadoes by a score of 49-41 to win in round one.
Athens will play top seeded Williamsville in round two Tuesday at 5.
