Prime Time Performers: August 29th – September 3rd

BIG PTP No Add

Here are this week’s candidates for Prime Time Performer.

You can vote once every 12 hours until the polls close on Friday at 5pm.

Ethan Clarke (Pawnee RB) The Saturday afternoon game allowed us to get out to Pawnee and see the Indians up close for the first time and we discovered what many 1A teams will hate to hear. Pawnee has two running backs this year that will straight up run right over you. Everyone knows about senior Austin Galloway, but Ethan Clarke is certainly on our radar now as a junior. He had 15 carries and tallied 187 yards while scoring twice against Oakwood.

Gavin Webb (Southeast QB) He was drafted as the first quarterback off the board in our high school fantasy league this week and he proved Kerker right on Saturday night. Gavin Webb went 16-22 in the air for 228 yards and four touchdowns and put up 74 rushing yards and scored twice on the ground. This guy is a special talent on the East Side and has shown the ability to lead Coach Lauber’s team with an exciting offense.

Nic Baker (Rochester QB) Any one of the Rochester wide receivers have shown the ability to be on the Prime Time Performer list every week, but someone has to throw them the ball. In week two, Nic Baker got a few more reps and put up some big numbers. Baker went 15-22 in the air for 223 yards and three touchdowns. It can’t be easy trying to decide which dynamic weapon to get the ball to each and every play, but Baker is making it look like a piece of cake.

Kevin Ingram (Pleasant Plains DB) Set a new school record and get yourself some recognition. The Pleasant Plains Cardinals put on quite a show in their home opener, shutting out the Riverton Hawks for their first win of the season. Defense was a big story and Kevin Ingram is now in the history books, grabbing three interceptions, one for a pick six to lead the Cardinals’ defense.

Adam Clark (Williamsville Kicker) Jace Franklin and Justice Ferrier are going to get a lot of publicity this season and rightfully so, but another weapon emerged for the Bullets offense on Friday night against Auburn. Senior Adam Clark knocked in three field goals, even one from 30 yards, to keep that offense moving and put important points on the board for what ultimately fueled the comeback, winning Williamsville the ballgame.

Grant Graham (North Mac QB) It certainly wasn’t pretty, but how about a little drama in Virden? The Panthers had to come from behind to beat New Berlin on Friday night but they got the job done and are 2-0. Quarterback Grant Graham had a hand in all five North Mac touchdowns. He threw for four of them and ran in the other one to keep North Mac nation fired up about a conference winning streak that keeps adding up.

Ben Hill (Jacksonville LB) The Crimsons were in a do or die situation on Friday night. If they don’t win on the road at Memorial Stadium, they are fighting an uphill battle for the next seven weeks to try and get to five wins. It was the Jacksonville defense, especially Ben Hill who came up with the huge interception with just over two minutes to play to seal the win for the Crimsons against Springfield High. They needed to make a play and Hill delivered.

Tremayne Lee (SHG RB) We are running out of adjectives to describe Tremayne Lee as he runs all over every defense he sees. The bad part is, we still have the rest of this season and next season to try and describe what this dynamic, powerful runner is doing week after week. Against MacArthur, Lee got 19 carries and put up 207 yards, scoring twice.

Nate Cheung (Springfield High Forward) People who know soccer in central Illinois know what a special talent Nate Cheung is. Players and coaches in the CS8 are ready for him to graduate. Luckily for us, we have one more season to watch him work. Cheung started the CS8 season with a hat trick, on the road, for all of Springfield’s goal against Jacksonville.

McKenzie Smith (Pleasant Plains volleyball) We went to the rivalry because we know it’s always entertaining when Williamsville and Plains do battle. Not many expected the young Cardinals to give Williamsville a game. I guess that’s why they play them. McKenzie Smith led Plains to a two set sweep of the Bullets on their home court for a Sangamo shake up. Smith had 13 kills and 21 digs as Plains won 25-23, 25-23, both in comeback fashion.
