Cheresse Mitchell (Sacred Heart Griffin Girls Basketball) A game winning three at the BOS Center is one way to earn a PTP nomination. In a battle on night three of City with Springfield High Mitchell hit a three with 2.0 seconds left in the game for the 47-46 victory. The Cyclones are 2-0 and play Lanphier Monday night for a chance at the outright City title. You can check out the highlights and the game winning shot HERE.
Maddie Roberts (Williamsville Girls Basketball) Williamsville is the 2022 Girls Sangamon County Champs! The Lady Bullets picked up the title with a 43-31 victory over Pleasant Plains last Friday. Roberts had all nine of her points in the fourth quarter to help secure the victory, was named to the all tournament team and won the Dan Hartlaub Outstanding Player Award. Kaiden Maurer (Maroa Forsyth Boys Basketball) The Trojans picked up three conference wins last week, against Illini Central on Monday, another agaisnt Williamsville on Tuesday and one more over Auburn on Friday. Maurer led the team with 23 points in the victory over the Bullets and added 15 points in the win versus Auburn. Highlights of the game against Williamsville can be found HERE.
Ellie Gegen (Rochester Girls Basketball) Rochester picked up a home CS8 win against Glenwood last Tuesday. The Rockets were led in scoring by Gegen in the 50-38 victory plus she added a Lite of the Night to her resume with a buzzer beater at the end of the third quarter. Zack Hawkinson (Sacred Heart Griffin Boys Basketball) The Cyclones look to secure the outright City title on Tuesday against Lanphier after finishing 2-0 at the BOS Center over the weekend. Hawkinson was the leading scorer for SHG in both games with a double double in the first against Springfield High. He finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds in that game, highlights of it HERE.
Weston Anderson (Glenwood Boys Basketball) Glenwood added two conference victories last week with wins over Rochester and Jacksonville. The Titans pulled away in the second half for the victory over Rochester party thanks to Anderson. The senior finished the game with 21 points including 15 of them coming in the second half. Mae Bandelow (South County Girls Basketball) The Lady Vipers picked up a win over Pawnee on Saturday and Bandelow entered her name into the record books. With six three-pointers in the victory she broke the single game record for South County with made threes in game.
Jackson Wagoner (Williamsville Boys Basketball) The Bullets picked up a 46-45 conference win at home against PORTA last Friday. The senior had his first career start in the game and led the team with 10 points. He also added six rebounds, took two charges and was big for Williamsville on defense all night.
Will Turk (Glenwood Swimming) The Titans finished second in a quad meet in Edwardsville over the weekend. Turk finished first in two events, the 200 yard IM (2:02.17) and the 100 breaststroke (1:00.32). He also won two events at the Swim for Hope Invite in Edwardsville last Monday. He won the 50 yard freestyle (22.46 seconds) and the 100 yard IM (54.58 seconds).
Camden Austin (Athens Boys Basketball) The Warriors picked up back to back wins over the weekend with a victory over Riverton on Friday and Tri-City on Saturday. Austin had a game high 17 points in the win over TCSV with 15 of those points coming in the second and third quarters.
