Kimoreyee Ballard (Springfield Wrestling) The Springfield Co-op girls wrestling team won a regional title in Jacksonville on Saturday. Ballard was one of three wrestlers to win individual titles on the team. She earned a semifinal win with a pin at 2:52 then won the title match with a pin at 4:54. Kenzer Burrell (Olympia Wrestling) The Spartans are heading to team state following a sectional victory over PORTA on Thursday. Burrell was one of the Spartans to pick up a win in the dual which Olympia won 40-33. Burrell came up with a pin at 3:53 for the victory. Highlights of the sectional dual HERE.
TiShawn Clemmons (MacArthur Boys Basketball) MacArthur claimed the CS8 conference title for the third year in a row last week with wins over Lincoln and Springfield High. The Generals also picked up a shootout win over Webster Grove on Saturday in O’Fallon. Clemmons helped lead the way in all three wins including 28 points on Saturday plus 20 points and eight steals against Lincoln on Tuesday. Highlights of the victory against Webster Grove HERE.
Khordell Gregory (Rochester Boys Basketball) The Rockets are on a roll right now winning 12 of their last 14 games. In three wins last week it was Gregory leading the way including 17 points in a win over Springfield High and 18 points against Southeast. Then on Saturday in a 15 points comeback win over Williamsville at the Sangamo shootout the sophomore scored 22 points and was named player of the game. Highlights of that comeback victory HERE.
Clayton Hoke (PORTA Boys Basketball) The Bluejays earned three wins last week including two conference victories to stay unbeaten in the Sangamo. Hoke had a double double in a 51-41 win over Riverton on Friday night with 10 points and 10 rebounds. He followed that up with 12 points in a victory over Pittsfield on Saturday. Karson Komnick (Lincoln Boys Basketball) A milestone moment in Lincoln on Saturday as head coach Neil Alexander won his 1,000th game. He wasn’t the only one who reached a milestone. Komnick scored 16 points in the victory over Lanphier including his 1,000th career point. The senior also helped lead the team in two games earlier in the week with 14 points in a win over SHG and 13 points in a loss to MacArthur. Highlights of the victory over Lanphier HERE.
Andrew Kotner (Springfield High Swimming & Diving) Two school records were broken last week by Kotner as the Springfield High Senators won the CS8 swim & dive title. On Tuesday Kotner broke the six dive record with a score of 315.2 then at the Central State Eight meet on Saturday he broke the eleven dive record with a score of 476.85. Dalton Root (Williamsville Boys Basketball) The Williamsville Bullets enter the week 5-0 in the Sangamo with wins over Athens and Pleasant Plains last week. Root helped lead the way in the victory over Plains with five threes for 15 points. Twelve of those points came in the first half. Kerbi Shultz (Pleasant Plains Girls Basketball) Pleasant Plains enters the final week of the regular season with an unbeaten conference record and are 22-2 overall. Shultz provided a spark off the bench for the Cardinals and scored nine points in a comeback win against Civic Memorial. She also had a good game against O’Fallon on Saturday, scoring the bucket to pull Plains within two in the fourth. Highlights of the win over Civic Memorial HERE and the game against O’Fallon HERE.
Elijah Smith (Glenwood Wrestling) The Glenwood Titans are onto state following a team sectional title on Thursday night over Mascoutah. Smith helped the Titans in their 41-22 win by picking up an overtime victory. Smith tied his match in the final minute then picked up the 9-6 win in OT. Highlights of the sectional dual HERE.
Aubrey Vogel (PORTA Girls Basketball) The Lady Jays had a busy week and remain unbeaten in the Sangamo. PORTA started the week with a comeback victory over Williamsville as Vogel led the way with 21 points including 14 in the second half. She then scored 21 in a win over Illini Central and 17 in a win over Carlinville. Highlights of the victory over Williamsville HERE.
