Isaac Collins has done the bulk for the damage from behind the 3-point line for Pleasant Plains this year, so on Wednesday, when Cole Greer and Daulton Nibbe hit huge threes to help Plains beat Athens 53-43 in a sectional semifinal, it was perhaps a sign of a team hitting on all cylinders at the right time.
The Cardinals withstood a third quarter charge from Athens that cut a 10 point lead to one but in the final seconds, Greer hit a top of the key lead to send Plains to the fourth up four. The Warriors would close that gap to as few as two in the fourth quarter before Nibbe put it on ice with a four point play from the corner.
Austin Finley had a game high 16 points. Nibbe added 15 and Collins 12. Matt Wendling scored 15 points in his final game in a Warriors uniform.
