In the first game, the Prairie Stars suffered a tough loss in a defensive battle, with UMSL scoring the only run in the third inning when a Triton singled and later scored on an error. Despite Calista Stahlhut recording six strikeouts and allowing just six hits, the Prairie Stars were unable to capitalize on their offensive opportunities. Bailey Masching stood out offensively with singles in the first and sixth innings, but UIS could not bring runners home, resulting in a final score of UMSL 1, UIS 0.
Stahlhut delivered a strong performance, pitching a complete game without giving up an earned run.
In the second game, UIS battled back but was unable to overcome an early four-run first inning by UMSL. The scoring began with a sacrifice fly and three RBI hits, giving the Tritons a 4-0 lead. UIS scored in the second inning when Calista Stahlhut singled and scored on an single from Rachel McMullen, making it 4-1.
The Prairie Stars continued to push back in the third, closing the gap with Rosie Bartletti’s triple and a steal of home. Rebecca Neupauer, who had walked, scored on a fielder’s choice by Koral Keehner, bringing the score to 4-3. However, UMSL extended its lead in the fourth inning with a 2 RBI double.
UIS fought hard in the fifth, with Neupauer and Masching scoring on RBI singles by Keehner and Stahlhut, narrowing the score to 6-5. UIS could not complete the comeback, resulting in a final score of UMSL 6, UIS 5.
Alexis Carroll encountered difficulties in the game two start, allowing four earned runs on three hits in the first inning, which moved her record to 7-2 on the season. Calista Stahlhut pitched the next 3 1/3 innings, and Rosie Bartletti closed it out with seven strikeouts over the final three innings of the game.
Stahlhut and Bartletti combined to allow five hits, while Bartletti and Neupauer recorded three stolen bases apiece.
Overall, UIS holds a record of 27-13 (11-7 GLVC), while Missouri-St. Louis improves to 19-17 (12-4 GLVC).
UIS will play at Maryville on Saturday and at McKendree on Sunday next weekend.
