Adam Abell (Routt Boys Basketball) Routt will play in a super sectional for the first time in school history on Monday following a sectional title victory in Nokomis last week. In a sectional semifinal win over Bunker Hill on Tuesday Abell led the way with 26 points for the Rockets including 17 in the first half. A win over Brown County in the title game on Friday would secure the sectional title for Routt. Highlights of the semifinal win HERE.
Ava Bobb (Glenwood Girls Basketball) Bobb helped the Titans get out to a big lead in their super sectional win over MacArthur on Monday as she scored 10 points in the first quarter and finished with 13 in the game. She also scored 13 points and had 3 assists in a state title game loss to Washington on Saturday. Highlights of the super sectional victory HERE.
Kai Bruce (Rochester Boys Basketball) Bruce had a hot start for the Rockets in a sectional semifinal last Wednesday as he made four threes in first quarter. The senior finished the game with six threes and 18 points as Rochester picked up the 52-49 win over Staunton. In a sectional title game loss to QND on Friday Bruce scored six points. TiShawn Clemmons (MacArthur Boys Basketball) MacArthur won their first boys basketball sectional championship on Friday with a 66-42 win over U-High. Clemmons was the Generals leading scorer in both the sectional semifinal and title games. The senior scored 29 points in the semifinal including 21 in the first half and added 16 to his weekly total in the title game. Highlights of the sectional semifinal win HERE and the title win HERE.
Cameron Johnson (Normal U-High Boys Basketball) The Pioneers season come to a close at 27-7 this season following a sectional title game loss to MacArthur. They reached that game with a 64-54 win over Springfield High in the sectional semifinal earlier in the week in which Johnson scored 22 points including 19 in the second half. Bailey Leach (Pleasant Plains Girls Basketball) Leach finished her senior basketball season with a second team all state honor as the Cardinals finished third at state. Leach scored 18 points in a super sectional win on Monday night. She also had 10 points in the Cardinals state semifinal loss to Breese Central and nine in the third place victory over St Edward. Elayna Marten (Mt Pulaski Girls Basketball) This Mt Pulaski senior finished her high school career with an all state special mention and helped lead her team to a second place finish at state. Marten was an important part of the Hilltoppers wins last week with 12 points in the super sectional on Monday and 14 points in the state semifinal game on Thursday. Alyson Murphy (Mt Pulaski Girls Basketball) The Hilltoppers earned a second place finish at state over the weekend as Murphy was named first team all state. The senior helped started off the week for Mt Pulaski with 22 points in a 48-38 win over Edwards County in the super sectional. She then scored 18 points and went 6-for-7 at the free throw line in an overtime state semifinal win over Brown County. On Saturday she scored 16 points in the title game which Dee-Mack won 49-34. Alexis Neumann (Glenwood Girls Basketball) Neumann was named first team all state over the weekend as the Titans brought home a second place finish at state. In a 62-35 win over MacArthur in the super sectional on Monday the senior scored 25 points. She finished with 20 points, 11 rebounds and five steals in the state semifinal where she went 7-for-7 from the field in the first half. Anna Weber (Pleasant Plains Girls Basketball) The Pleasant Plains Cardinals finished their season on Thursday with a third place finish at state. Weber was named to first team all state and score 18 points in the super sectional win over Tri-Valley on Monday. She then scored 17 points in their state semifinal loss and 17 points in a 53-33 win over St Edward for third. Highlights of the super sectional victory HERE.
