Luke Blackford (Calvary Boys Basketball) As the senior continues to climb the all time scorers list in Illinois he had another big week. In three wins last week Blackford averaged nearly 30 points with 24 against Mt Pulaski, 34 against South County and 31 against Lincolnwood.
Madison Burke (Pleasant Plains Girls Basketball) The Pleasant Plains Cardinals are Sangamo champs following a 47-28 victory over PORTA on Wednesday. In that victory it was Burke who led the way with 12 points. She also scored 10 in a win over Riverton earlier in the week. Check out highlights of the conference clinching victory HERE.
Drew Carter (PORTA Boys Basketball) A big win for the Bluejays on Friday night as they take control of the Sangamo with a 51-49 win over Williamsville. PORTA is now 7-0 in the conference and Carter was one of the teams leading scorers with 19 points including 10 in the first half. Highlights of the victory HERE.
Chloe Collins (Olympia Wrestling) One of many Spartan wrestlers who are heading to state is Collins as she waits a week to compete at the girls state finals in Bloomington. She earned a second place finish at the North Mac sectional on Saturday. Check out highlights from the day HERE.
Brady Crews (New Berlin Track & Field) The indoor track season is underway and Crews has already set a new indoor school record. The senior set the record in triple jump with a jump of 38 feet 4 inches at the Knight Indoor Invite in Jacksonville on Friday.
Phoenix Criss (Springfield Wrestling) Criss is one of two Springfield wrestlers who will head to state next weekend. Criss finished second at the North Mac girls sectional and earned a pin in 34 seconds in the semifinal match. Highlights from the sectional HERE.
Austin Kisner (Olympia Wrestling) Kisner picked up a career milestone and a ticket to state on Saturday in his home gym. The Spartan wrestler finished fourth at 150 pounds at the Olympia sectional and also earned his 100th victory during the day. Highlights from Stanford HERE.
Casen Lyons (Sacred Heart Griffin Wrestling) Another individual sectional champ to come out of the Olympia sectional was Lyons at 190 pounds. He earned the title with a pin at 1:37 and will head to state later this week. Highlights from the Olympia sectional HERE.
Cody Moss (Glenwood Wrestling) Last year’s state champion is heading back to the state finals in Champaign this weekend. The Titan senior picked up an individual sectional title in Granite City over the weekend with a pin at 2:40 in the title matchup. Some highlights from the sectional HERE.
Alyson Murphy (Mt Pulaksi Girls Basketball) Mt Pulaski finished up the regular season with a 27-1 record last week. Murphy also hit the 2,000 point mark in a win over SJO. The senior needed just 17 points entering the game and surpassed that in the fourth quarter for the career milestone. She finished the game with 22.
Alexis Neumann (Glenwood Girls Basketball) The Titans won the Central State Eight conference with a perfect 10-0 record last week. In their final conference game of the season against Jacksonville it was Neumann who hit a career milestone. The junior achieved her 1,000th point and finished the game with 14 points. Julian Rice (Riverton Boys Basketball) The junior had a big performance at the Riverton Shootout on Saturday to lead the Hawks to a 68-64 win over Webber. Rice finished the game with 43 points with 21 points in the first half and 22 in the second half.
Justin Zimmerman (PORTA Wrestling) This Bluejay is onto state following an individual sectional title on Saturday at Olympia. Zimmerman earned the title in the 165 pound bracket with a pin at 3 minutes. Some highlights from the sectional HERE.
