Evan Aleman and Adam Wheeling (Sacred Heart Griffin Boys Tennis) This Cyclone doubles team won a sectional title over the weekend. They won the doubles bracket at the Jacksonville sectional with a 7-6, 6-2 victory over a team from Quincy Norte Dame. Aleman and Wheeling head to state this weekend.
Andy Antonacci (Sacred Heart Griffin Baseball) A no-hitter is a good way to help lead your team to a regional title. Antonacci pitched a full seven innings allowing no hits and striking out ten in the win. He also hit a two-run home run in the 3-0 victory over Quincy Notre Dame. Chase Boester and Ian Shin (Normal U-High Boys Tennis) The Pioneers traveled to the Champaign Centennial sectional over the weekend. The doubles team of Boester and Shin qualified for state with a first place finish. The win came with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over a team from Centennial.
Peyton Campbell (Auburn Baseball) The Auburn Trojans hosted a regional title game on Saturday and picked up the hardware with an 11-2 win over Litchfield. Campbell drove in four run in the game on a single and a double. He also had one stolen base in the victory.
Coy Clarke (Pawnee Baseball) Not only did Pawnee win a regional title on Saturday they got to do it on their home field. Clarke put in good performances on the mound and at the plate. He threw four innings, allowing just two hits and one run while striking out five. He also drove in one run and had a hit in the 14-1 win over Neoga.
Collin Etter (North Mac Baseball) North Mac had an exciting end to a regional semifinal last week before they went on to win the regional title over Shelbyville on Saturday. Down 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh against Piasa Southwestern, it was Etter who hit an inside the park home run to score three and walk it off. He also picked up a hit and scored a run in the regional title win on Saturday. Check out the walk off hit HERE.
Caiden Flanigan (Pleasant Plains Boys Track and Field) A busy day for Flanigan at the Pleasant Plains sectional as he helped the Cardinals win the title. Flanigan will head to state in four events as he won the 110 hurdles (15.42) and finished second in the 200 meter. He also ran on two winning relays which included the 4×100 team (43.60) and the 4×200 team (1:31.14).
Luke Martin (Mt Pulaski Baseball) Mt Pulaksi won a regional championship on Saturday with a 2-1 win over Tuscola. Martin had an RBI single in the first inning and also pitched seven innings allowing just two hits, one earned run and struck out 12. Mt Pulaski heads to the Arcola sectional this week.
Lucy Nell (Williamsville Softball) Williamsville won a regional title on Friday night with a 3-0 victory over West Hancock. That was the Bullets first regional title since 2022. Nell got Williamsville on the board in the second inning with a two RBI single. Williamsville will travel to the Macomb sectional this week.
DeAngelo Owen (Maroa Forsyth Boys Track and Field) Owen helped lead the Trojans to a sectional title last week as he qualified for state in four events. Owen qualified in both hurdle events with a second place finish in the 110 hurdles and a third place finish in the 300 hurdles. He was also on two winning relay teams that will head to state this weekend. Those relays included the 4×100 (44.01) and the 4×200 (1:32.77).
Pleasant Plains 4×400 Team (Girls Track and Field) The Cardinals have a state championship winning relay team. Alaina Hawker, Teagen Galloway, Maddy Hegele and Abigail Wolters won the 1A 4×400 title with a time of 3:59.06. That time was .57 of a second in front of the El Paso Gridley team in second. The win also makes them the first event to win a state title for the Cardinals girls track and field program. See how they got the win and hear from the team HERE.
Emma Sabatka (Pleasant Plains Girls Soccer) Pleasant Plains heads home to play in a 2A sectional this week following a regional championship victory on Friday. The Cardinals earned the 1-0 win over Glenwood for the title and it was Sabatka in the goal who preserved the shutout. You can see highlights of the win HERE.
Caroline Sheehan (Sacred Heart Griffin Girls Soccer) The Cyclones are onto a sectional championship following a regional championship and sectional semifinal win last week. On Tuesday, Sheehan scored a goal in a 2-0 victory over Auburn as SHG won the Riverton regional. Then on Saturday, the Cyclones defeated Litchfield 4-2 in a sectional semifinal as Sheehan finished with a hat trick. Highlights of the Cyclones regional title win HERE.
Emme Steward (Normal U-High Softball) U-High brought home a regional championship on Saturday from SJO. They won the title with a 5-2 victory over Westville. Steward got the scoring started for the Pioneers with a two-run home run in the fourth. U-High heads to the Tolono Unity sectional this week.
Isabella Thurston (Normal U-High Girls Track and Field) The Pioneers are back-to-back state champs while Thurston earns her first individual state title. Thurston won the 2A discus title with a throw of 44.13 meters. She also finished fourth in shot put. The U-High team brought home medals in eight different events and won the 2A team title by 15 points with a score of 64. Highlight of the Pioneer’s state title winning day HERE.
Addison Wheatley (Auburn Softball) The Trojans won another regional title on Saturday with a 1-0 win over Carlinville. Auburn got the victory on their home field as Wheatley drove in the lone run of the game. That run came on a RBI triple in the sixth inning. See highlights of the victory HERE.
