Caleb Cox (Lutheran High Baseball) A school record performance for Cox against North Greene on Wednesday. Despite a 17-14 loss, Cox went 4-6 in the win with three runs scored and five runs batted in. Those four hits included three home runs and a double. The three homers set the school record for most home runs in a game.
Klaire Eighner (Maroa Forsyth Girls Track & Field) Maroa Forsyth hosted a 1A sectional on Wednesday and won the sectional title. Eighner picked up two wins to help the Trojans claim the victory. She won the 1600 meter (5:23.73) and the 3200 meter (11:41.40). The junior also recently broke a 31 year old school record in the 1600 meter.
Sophia Feld (Glenwood Softball) The Titans wrapped up the outright Central State Eight softball title on Thursday with a 7-0 win over Rochester. Glenwood wrapped up the week with a doubleheader at Waterloo. Feld went 6-8 in the two games with six runs scored and seven RBIs including three home runs. Krish & Jai Khurana (Springfield High Boys Tennis) Springfield High won the CS8 doubles title on Saturday at Washington Park. The Khurana brothers earned the win with a 6-3,6-2 victory over the pair of Arshad and Ehrlich of Glenwood. Highlights from Saturday at the CS8 meet HERE.
Ethan Kieser (Normal U-High Baseball) The Pioneers stay alive in the CS8 title hunt with a 10-0 win over Glenwood on Thursday. Kieser was back on the mound for U-High in the win as he threw a two hit shoutout while walking just two batters and striking out five. U-High would claim a share of the CS8 title if Glenwood beats Rochester on Tuesday. Highlights of the Pioneers’ win HERE.
Ben Loeffler (Glenwood Boys Tennis) The Glenwood Titans won the CS8 boys tennis title for the first time since 2017 over the weekend. Loeffler helped lead Glenwood to the win as he picked up the singles title at the conference meet. The individual victory came in a title match against Nebel of Jacksonville with a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Landon Maisenbacher (Pleasant Plains Baseball) The Cardinals went 4-1 in a busy schedule last week. Plains was down 9-6 entering the bottom of the seventh against Morton on Saturday and it was Maisenbacher who finished the week strong with a walk off single for the 10-9 win. Lydia McIntyre (Normal U-High Girls Track & Field) The reigning 2A state champs picked up a sectional title last week with a win at Pontiac. McIntyre helped lead the Pioneers to the victory as she was a part of three first place finishes. The senior won the 100 meter (12.47) and was a part of the winning 4×100 team (47.26) and the winning 4×200 team (1:42.64). She was also on the U-High 4×400 team that finished second.
Jorey Myren (Rochester Baseball) The Rockets have secured at least a share of the CS8 title with a 2-1 walk off win over Springfield on Tuesday. Myren was responsible for that walk off with a solo homer in the eighth inning. That homer was his lone hit of the game. Rochester heads into a matchup with Glenwood on Tuesday with an 8-0 CS8 record and look to close out the conference as outright champs. See that walk off homer and more HERE.
Meena Taylor (Auburn Softball) The Trojans claimed a share of the Sangamo softball title with a win over Pleasant Plains on Tuesday. The 4-2 win came in a game that was resumed after rain postponed the completion a few weeks prior. Taylor went 2-4 with two runs batted in and stuck out 14 in seven innings pitched. Larry Wills (Glenwood Boys Track & Field) A busy day with three wins for Wills at the Central State Eight boys track and field meet. Glenwood won the team title as Wills contributed with two individual victory and was a part of a winning relay team. The junior won high jump (6 foot, 6 inches) and long jump (23 feet, 0.75 inches).
