Max Dameron (Normal U-High Football) The Pioneers have made history this season with a semifinal appearance. Unfortunately Normal U-High fell in a close one, 21-14, to Mt Zion on Saturday. Following an emotional few weeks off the field for the junior, Dameron came up with an interception in the second quarter to help stop the Braves’ drive. That was the linebackers second interception of the year while he also has a fumble recovery this season. Highlights of the semifinal game HERE.
Ryne Sheppard (Maroa Forsyth Football) The junior quarterback continues to set records as he leads the Trojans into a state title game this week. Sheppard completed 16 of 19 passes for 291 yards and four touchdowns in the win over Johnston City. He also rushed for a score in the second quarter. With those 16 completed passes, Sheppard passed his QB coach for most completions in a season. He sits at 208 following the 41-22 semifinal win that you can see highlights of HERE.
Aubrey Vogel (PORTA Girls Basketball) The Bluejays started off the season with a tournament win at the Clinton Turkey Tournament on Saturday. They went 4-0 in the tournament and picked up a 36-29 win over Dee-Mack for the title. Vogel was named to the all tournament team as she led the way with 14 points in the title game. She also added 15 points in a win over MacArthur and 11 points against Champaign Centennial.
Anna Weber (Pleasant Plains Girls Basketball) Pleasant Plains got the basketball season started last Wednesday with a win over SJO at home. Weber led the Cardinals with 23 points in the win as 21 points came in the first half. Check out some highlights of the win HERE.
Mitch Williams (Maroa Forsyth Football) The Trojans are one step closer to a ring as they continue to break records along the way. In a 41-22 win over Johnston City on Saturday, Williams had five receptions for 148 yards and three touchdowns in the victory. That stat line helped move the all state senior into first in school history for career receiving yards as he sits at 2,261 yards and counting. Williams also came up big on defense with a blocked punt that set up a touchdown in the semifinal victory. See how Maroa Forsyth punched their ticket to the state finals HERE.
