Trinity in Taylorville Prime Time Performer: November 11-16

Here are this week’s candidates for the Trinity Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Taylorville Prime Time Performer.

You can vote once every 12 hours until the polls close on Friday at 5 p.m.

The winner will receive a $20 gift card to Dublin Pub.

Gift cards will be mailed to the school office at the end of each month.

AJ Ferguson (Glenwood Football) The Titans got a couple big defensive plays from Ferguson in a 6A quarterfinal loss to East St Louis on Saturday. Ferguson had a big tackle for loss in the first quarter to help force a turnover on downs for the Flyers. He would then come up with an interception late in the first half to keep the East STL lead to 20-7 entering the locker room. Highlights of the game HERE.

Ivan Hun (Quincy Notre Dame Football) The Raiders were down 14-0 against Maroa Forsyth at the end of the first in a 2A quarterfinal on Saturday and it was Hun who first put QND on the board. He would go on to rush for 115 yards and score another touchdown to put the Raiders ahead 21-14 in the third before the Trojans came back for the win. Highlights of Hun’s performance HERE.

Cole Matejka (Normal U-High Football) The Normal U-High Pioneers are semifinal bound for the first time in school history after a 31-12 win over Cahokia in a 4A quarterfinal on Saturday. Matejka led the way for the Pioneers’ defense with nine tackles in the win including two sacks. See highlights of the victory HERE.

Ryne Sheppard (Maroa Forsyth Football) For the third year in a row the Maroa Forsyth Trojans are in a 2A semifinal. Sheppard passed the 3,000 yard mark this season on Saturday as he threw for 183 yards in the win over Quincy Notre Dame. The junior quarterback also threw two touchdowns including the game winner to Zach Smith plus the 2 points conversion, also to Smith. Sheppard added 91 rushing yards in the victory. Grant Smith (Maroa Forsyth Football) The Illini commit might be more known as a tight end but the senior now holds a school record on the defensive side of the ball. A linebacker on the Trojans’ defense, Smith picked up six tackles in a quarterfinal win over QND to make him the school record holder for single season tackles. He passed Aiden Riser for first and is sitting at 114 tackles this season. Smith also caught a touchdown in the quarterfinal win that you can see highlights of HERE.

Zach Smith (Maroa Forsyth Football) The Trojans are back in a 2A semifinal after a win over QND on Saturday at Walter Boyd Field. A big game and a season milestone came for Smith in the 22-21 win. The junior wide receiver had nine catches for 61 yards to put him over 1,000 receiving yards this season. He also caught the game winning touchdown and two point conversion to help lead Maroa to the victory. He now sits at 1,017 receiving yards this season. Demir Spaulding (Normal U-High Football) The Pioneers will head to a state semifinal for the first time in school history. Spaulding helped get U-High on the board early with two field goals, one for 25 yards and another for 31 yards, to make it 6-0 Pioneers at the end of the first. He would go on to make another 31 yard field goal and two PATs in the 31-12 win over Cahokia. The Pioneers will host Mt Zion at Hancock Stadium on Saturday at 7pm in a 4A semifinal. Alek Weiland (Normal U-High Football) He’s been on this list a couple times this year but helping lead the Pioneers to their first semifinal appearance is a good way to get nominated again. Weiland threw for 263 yards and two touchdowns in the 31-12 win over Cahokia. He also rushed for 56 yard in the victory that you can see highlights of HERE.

Khanton Wilson (Maroa Forsyth Football) Maroa Forsyth picked up a big 22-21 quarterfinal win over QND on Saturday as Wilson hit a season milestone. The senior running back rushed for 47 yards and a score in the win. That put him over a thousand yards rushing this season as he now stands at 1,014 yards.
