Evan Foster (Maroa Forsyth Baseball) A busy week for the Trojans as they won both a regional and sectional. In the regional championship against Williamsville on Monday, Foster struck out 12 in 6 1/3 innings of work and got the win as Maroa picked up a 6-4 victory. Then in the sectional championship on Saturday against QND he struck out 9 in the 5-2 win. See highlights of the regional HERE and the sectional HERE.
Makinzie McCaskell (Glenwood Softball) The Titans are regional champs after a 4-1 win over Taylorville on Friday night in Chatham. McCaskell came up with a big hit in the bottom of the second to give Glenwood the lead, with bases loaded she hit a double out to center that cleared the bases. See that hit and more HERE.
Zach Powell (Pleasant Plains Boys Track and Field) Powell is an individual state champ and the Cardinals brought home a third place finish as a team at the boys state track meet at Eastern over the weekend. Powell led the way with 10 points scored for the team as he won the 1A 400m with a time of 49.24. Check out that race and how Pleasant Plains finished third HERE.
Mia Volpert (Springfield High Softball) Have yourself a day Mia! Not only did Volpert throw a no-hitter in the regional championship against Rochester, she also had four hits and five RBIs in the win. In the circle, she struck out eight and allowed no walks. The Senators won 9-0 to claim the title and move on to play Mahomet Seymour in the Mt Zion sectional. Check out the highlights of the regional championship game HERE.
Krayton Reincke (Glenwood Baseball) Glenwood heads to the Champaign Central Sectional this week after a victory at home over Jacksonville in the regional championship. Reincke led the team with three RBIs in the 10-4 victory. See the highlights of the Titan win HERE.
Mason Kooi (Lutheran High Boys Track and Field) Kooi came home from Eastern as a two time state champ! He picked up the a victory in high jump at 2.08m then followed it up with a win in triple jump at 13.44m. Check out those winning jumps HERE.
Adriana Crabtree (U-High Girls Soccer) The Pioneers won a super sectional on Tuesday then traveled to Naperville over the weekend to compete in the 1A state finals. Crabtree had a big game in the super sectional with two goals. Check out those goals HERE.
Seth Impson (Springfield High Baseball) The Senators won their regional on Saturday in Mt Zion with a 2-0 victory over CS8 opponent SHG. Impson threw a complete game shutout in the win to send Springfield to the Champaign Central sectional this week. See the highlights of the regional title game HERE.
Garrett Slack (Lincoln Boys Track and Field) We have two state champs and state record holders out of Lincoln this year. After Becca Heitzig’s performances last week at state Slack followed it up with a win in the 800m this week to set a new 2A state meet record with a time of 1:51.42. Check it out HERE.
Haden Vlcek (Glenwood Girls Soccer) Glenwood is back in a super sectional this year after a sectional title win over Rochester on Friday. In the 2-0 victory Vlcek not only was a big contributor on defense she also scored. See the highlights of the sectional title game HERE.
Jackson Kern (Auburn Boys Track and Field) Kern is a 1A hurdles state champ. He got the win at the sectional meet in the 300m hurdles then followed it up this weekend at state with another first place finish with a time of 38.14. He also finished second in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.52. See his races HERE.
