The last time Pleasant Plains and Athens played it was a 4-0 Warrior victory. This time they faced off in PORTA for a 2A regional semifinal game and the Cardinals came out on top. Down 8-4 to start the seventh, Pleasant Plains score 12 runs in the top of the inning to pick up a 16-8 victory.
Faith Nestler got the win in the circle and struck out three in the bottom of the seventh to close out the game. McGwire Rout went 2-4 with one walk and five RBIs including a three run home to give Pleasant Plains the lead. Carly Szoke led the Warriors with three RBIs.
Pleasant Plains will face Quincy Notre Dame on Friday at 4:30 at PORTA for a 2A regional championship.
