Athens found themselves in a battle with Newark right away, as a back and forth first set made every point vital, but once the Norsemen’s Madi Malone turned it on, she didn’t look back. The Newark junior tallied 23 kills in two sets as the Norsemen defeated the Warriors 25-20, 25-14 to move on to the 1A state championship game Saturday morning. Athens will play in the third place game at 9 am Saturday.
