Prime Time Performer: December 11-16

Here are this week’s candidates for Prime Time Performer.

You can vote once every 12 hours until the polls close on Friday at 5 p.m.

The winner will receive a $20 gift card to Mariah’s Restaurant.

Jason Hansbrough (Glenwood Guard) A sophomore in the CS8 with the ball in his hands to end overtime against Southeast. The Titans guard didn’t show one sign of fear as he took it to the rack and scored what was the game winner against the Spartans on Friday night. Jason Hansbrough is one of many reasons why the Glenwood Titans are a team that nobody in the CS8 wants to play this season.

Karl Wright (Lanphier Forward) How often do you see a near double-double without points in high school basketball? Karl Wright didn’t need to score on Saturday night, what he needed to do was be a force in the paint and he was exactly that. The high flyer had eight blocks and nine rebounds against the Generals, go check Big Nasty to see the weekly Karl Wright show.

Courtney Jenkins (Glenwood Guard) For awhile now, we’ve just though of Glenwood as Makenzie Bray and company when it comes to girls basketball. Last week proved that they are plenty more and they’re going to compete at the top of the CS8 this season. Courtney Jenkins came up with a huge three to help seal a win against Rochester on Saturday, after scoring 20 points in another win against SHG earlier in the week.

Garrick Walker (Glenwood Wrestler) The Glenwood Titans wrestling team continues to roll through their competition, winning the team title at the Joe Bee Invite on Saturday. One of their individual winners has yet to lose this season and is a very exciting wrestler to watch. Garrick Walker at 152 pounds is worth your time to go check out throughout the season.

Casey Tuttle (Williamsville Guard) The Williamsville Bullets have pushed themselves into the conversation in our office for the clear cut best area team heading into the holiday tournaments. Their senior sniper Casey Tuttle scored 22 points against St. Teresa in a Bullets’ road win, showing that Nick Beard has himself a solid squad this season.

Mason Muller (PORTA Forward) 98 percent of people on our U-Pickem page had Pleasant Plains beating PORTA last Friday night. Those two percent that picked the Bluejays were awfully happy that Mason Muller was the man against the Cardinals. The sophomore had a game high 16 points and the steal to lock up the victory late in the fourth.

Zaire Harris (Springfield High Guard) Speaking of against the odds, only one percent of people picked Springfield High to beat Eisenhower on Saturday night….but that also happened. Zaire Harris scored 23 points against the Panthers, nearly half of the Senators total to pull off a big confidence boosting victory for the Solons heading into Christmas break.

Jack Buerkett (New Berlin Guard) How about the comeback that New Berlin put together to beat North Mac last Friday night? It took a full team effort that included a layup from Connor Allen and then two free throws with one second remaining from sophomore Jack Buerkett to lock it up. Buerkett scored 12 points in the game and has become a very solid scoring option for Blake Lucas with Max Day missing time.

Gezus Oliver (Mt. Pulaski Guard) We haven’t gotten out to see them yet this season, but the Mt. Pulaski Hilltoppers are pulling off some impressive wins to start the season. A big reason why is their guard Gezus Oliver who put up 33 points, including nine threes against Athens and then scored 20 points at the Woodshed against Lincolnwood, both resulted in Hilltopper victories.
