Prime Time Performer: November 13 – 18

Here are this week’s candidates for Prime Time Performer.

You can vote once every 12 hours until the polls close on Friday at 5 p.m.

The winner will receive a $20 gift card to Mariah’s Restaurant.

Nick Capriotti (Rochester RB/LB) There’s so many big time players on the Rocket football team that is on the verge of history. A guy that plays on both sides of the ball and is constantly involved is our TQT victim this week. Nick Capriotti led the defense with 12 tackles and 1.5 sacks against Highland and also had four carries at running back for 26 yards and one of Rochester’s four scores.

Nik Samson (Pleasant Plains Running Back) Pleasant Plains’ offensive line deserves a shoutout for what they did on Saturday. The Cardinals running backs had huge holes to run through and Nik Samson found them, especially in the first half against Anna-Jonesboro. Samson rushed for 152 of his 209 total yards in the first half and scored three times.

Kam Boline (Maroa-Forsyth WR) Looking at the weather conditions, it would’ve been hard to guess that three scores in Shelbyville on Saturday would’ve been in the air. Windy, rainy and cold didn’t slow down the Ian Benner to Kam Boline connection that scored two touchdowns. Boline had two catches for 110 yards and two scores.

Tristen Tewes (Pleasant Plains LB) Not sure who the Pleasant Plains public address announcer is for football games, but we’re curious if he ever gets tired of saying Tristen Tewes’ name on defense. Tewes was a physical force against Anna-Jonesboro and had two huge plays, a fumble recovery to start the second quarter on a kickoff and then an interception in the third quarter.

Riley Lewis (Rochester WR/DB) All the talk all week was about a possible shootout between Rochester and Highland in the 4A semifinal. The Rocket secondary shut down the Bulldogs passing game thanks to junior defensive back Riley Lewis who was able to limit the all state wide receiver. On offense, Lewis had one catch for six yards from Nic Baker. On defense Lewis had two interceptions and a huge return that set up a score.

Caroline Jachino (Pleasant Plains Guard) We were busy with football last week but have certainly been put on notice about the Pleasant Plains girls basketball team this season. The Cardinals went 5-0 in the Macomb tournament, led by Caroline Jachino who had 14 points against Illini Bluffs, 10 against Peoria Christian and 13 against Pekin.

Skylar Hayes (Mt. Pulaski Guard) If you get the chance this season, get out to Mt. Pulaski and see Skylar Hayes hoop. The Hilltopper guard is an incredible talent and was balling out last week to start the season. Hayes had 22 points, including 14 in the fourth quarter against Riverton, that included the game winning layup and free throw. She also had 12 points against Stanford Olympia and 23 against Tri-Valley.

Hayden Mitchell (Maroa-Forsyth DB) Defensively, the Trojans stepped up again in the second half and pitched a shutout against the Rams. Hayden Mitchell was a huge stopper on defense with three interceptions and four tackles to slow down the Shelbyville offense and allow his Trojans to come back and win the game.

Olivia Felts (Williamsville Forward) Another girls basketball team to keep an eye on early has been the Williamsville Lady Bullets. They went 3-0 in pool play to start their season at the Pana Thanksgiving Tournament. They’re led by senior Olivia Felts who had the game tying bucket to force overtime against Christ Our Rock on a full court pass. Felts finished with 17 in that one to keep the Bullets unbeaten.
