Here are this week’s candidates for Prime Time Performer.
You can vote once every 12 hours until the polls close on Friday at 5 p.m.
Kolton Behrent (Pawnee Quarterback) Pawnee is used to pounding the ball on the ground and they’ve got two guys that are really good at doing that this year. On Saturday, they went to the air for four scores against Wood River to give their opponents a different look. Indians quarterback Kolton Behrent chucked it for four touchdowns and 259 yards. If the Indians can run and pass, they can make some noise in the 1A bracket.
Caleb Baptist (Auburn Defensive End) The Auburn offense is rounding into form this season with Ben Johnson finding his young targets and the run game starting to pick up steam. If the defense can return to an elite level, watch out for the Trojans again. On Friday night, their defense delivered two scores, from the same guy. Caleb Baptist had not one, but two interceptions that he returned for touchdowns against Riverton.
Alec Ostermeier (Rochester Running Back) All the attention in the CS8 as far as running backs are considered is on SHG and Tremayne Lee. Behind T-Lee’s 15 touchdowns is a close second from Rochester. The Rockets running back has 12 touchdowns and is averaging over 100 yards a game this season. He racked up 222 rushing yards on 23 carries while finding the end zone four times on Friday night.
James White (Jacksonville Wide Receiver) He may not have put up the biggest numbers on Friday night but this is a more of a career accomplishment that landed Jacksonville’s James White on this week’s Prime Time Performer list. White passed Zach Grant on the Central State Eight’s all time receptions list, taking over the record with his 182nd catch in Week 6. White still has at least three more weeks to add to that amazing total.
Jace Franklin (Williamsville Running Back) We’re trying to find a reason to not put Jace Franklin on the Prime Time Performer list each week, but he just keeps dominating. Franklin plowed his way to six scores on the ground against the Pretzels, not a bad way to celebrate homecoming. Franklin went over 1,000 on the season with 244 more on Friday night.
Logan York (North Mac Kicker) Another week, another win for North Mac. If your keeping track the Panthers are still undefeated and we’re just trying to find different guys to get the love each week. Asa Donaldson would be an excellent choice, scoring all three of their touchdowns, but we’re giving the love to Logan this week. York hit a 33 yard field goal in the fourth quarter against Plains and the Panthers won by just two.
Glenwood’s Offensive Line – The Glenwood Titans like to run the football. Moving Jubbar Cross to quarterback makes them even scarier heading into the final months of the season but all running backs and QB’s will tell you, they can’t do anything without their offensive line. Glenwood had three guys rush for over 100 yards so we’re giving the love to the big boys this week in PTP. Grant Beeler, Will Putnam, Ethan Lafountain, Daniel Banaitas and Hunter Crumly earned the nod.
Tim Brenneisen (SHG Quarterback) All the attention has been on Tremayne Lee and the Cyclone run game through the first two-thirds of the season. But the past two games, Tim Brenneisen has been putting up some impressive numbers. Brenneisen threw for three first half scores against Southeast, making SHG that much more dangerous to defend heading into the Leonard Bowl.
Cameron Smith (Lanphier Wide Receiver) We haven’t seen a Lion up for the Prime Time Performers yet this season, but Cameron Smith certainly earned it. The track star is used to jumping hurdles but on Friday night, he jumped high enough to block a field goal attempt that ultimately sealed up Lanphier’s first victory this season. Smith also caught a first half touchdown against the Senators.
Kelby Phillips (Springfield High midfielder) Central Illinois is known for its excellent football this time of year, but for those who appreciate the other kind of futbol, they need to get out and see Springfield High play. Junior midfielder Kelby Phillips already holds the IHSA state record for career assists and he continued to put up impressive numbers last week. He had two goals and two assists against U-High, including a free kick score from 50 plus yards. Phillips also put up three goals and three assists against Lanphier in another CS8 win.
Bailey Rexroad (Riverton Outside Hitter) Bailey Rexroad had herself quite a week to close out September. She survived her Ten Question Tuesday then helped the Hawks win the County title with 12 kills, 12 digs and two blocks against Williamsville. The very next day Rexroad added 12 more kills in a Sangamo win over Illini Central.
McKenzie Smith (Pleasant Plains Outside Hitter) In case you haven’t seen the top of the Sangamo standings in volleyball, the Pleasant Plains girls are on top. The young Cardinals have plenty of key contributors and McKenzie Smith is one of them that delivered last week. She had ten assists against Lutheran High in a two set sweep and that was after she tallied seven kills and nine digs against Carlinville on Tuesday.
