Here are this week's candidates for the Antonio's Pizza Prime Time Performer. You can vote once every 12 hours until the polls close on Friday at 5pm. The winner will receive a $20 gift card to Antonio's Pizza!
Ethan Klay (Springfield High pitcher) The Senator hurler picked up the win on the bump on Saturday while striking out four batters against Quincy High School. On Wednesday, Klay threw two innings in relief of no hit ball against MacArthur and picked up two hits and two RBI’s at the dish.
Cayden Muench (Auburn baseball) We all know Tristan Weaver is a really good pitcher, but in order for Auburn to win games, they still have to score runs. So far this year the Trojans have gotten plenty hits from Muench. He had two hits and two RBI’s against Athens on Saturday in Auburn’s first Sangamo win this season and that was after he went 3 for 4 with two RBI's against Gillespie earlier in the week.
Jose Parga (New Berlin baseball) The Pretzels have some talent on the diamond and we saw that when they pushed the Williamsville Bullets in a thrilling game last week. One of their studs this season is Parga who went 3 for 4 at the dish with three runs scored and three RBI's on offense and he picked up win on the mound against Tri-City.
Quinlan Mahoney (PORTA pitcher) There are plenty of solid pitching performances in this week’s Prime Time Performer and that includes the Bluejays pitching from Mahoney. She allowed just one hit in PORTA’s 11-0 win over Calvary. More impressive was the fact she only needed 46 pitches and she struck out six.
Jamari Drake (Southeast high jumper) It’s no surprise that Drake won the high jump title on Saturday after she won it at the outdoor state tournament last season. Drake went inside at the Illinois Prep Top Times Indoor Track and Field Classic at Illinois Wesleyan University and won another first place title by clearing 5’6” in the Class 2A division.
Adam Hillis (Jacksonville pitcher) We’re pretty bummed we didn’t have a camera out to Jacksonville on Wednesday, mainly because Hillis would have had Big Nasty on lock. He hit three home runs while driving in five going 3 for 4 at the dish against Glenwood. Hillis also pitched five innings and struck out four and got the win against a Titan team that nearly ten runned them the day before.
Brendan Hostettler (Glenwood baseball) The Glenwood Titans got their season started on the right note when they let Hostettler lead off last Tuesday. He took the first at bat from Jacksonville and went yard. The Titans put up eight runs in the first inning and two were off the bat of Hostettler as he singled in a run in his second at bat of that first inning. He followed that up with a home run and two RBI’s on Wednesday when the Titans traveled to Jacksonville.
Whitney David (SHG pitcher) A day after a tough loss at Lincoln, the Cyclones returned home and on their own diamond, David was dominant. The SHG pitcher threw a no hitter and the Cyclones won the game in five innings to get some revenge on the Railsplitters on Wednesday.
Hope Moos (Lincoln softball) This will be one at bat that’ll be talked about in Lincoln softball history for quite awhile. Moos stepped up to the plate and knocked a walk off RBI double off the right center field fence that brought in Holly Davis to give the Railsplitters a 4-3 win over SHG on Tuesday afternoon.
Hope Tewes (Pleasant Plains high jumper) The senior Cardinals high jumper won the 1A title at the Illinois Prep Top Times meet at IWU last Saturday by clearing 5’7”. That’s taller than she is. Tewes with the hops will be fun to watch all year long.
Nikole Haberkorn (Glenwood pitcher) The Titan softball team seems to be in good hands despite losing a lot of talent off of last year’s sectional squad. Haberkorn threw a five inning no hitter vs. Jacksonville last week, while striking out 11. Of her 80 pitches in that game, 55 of them were strikes.
Zelinda Taylor (Rochester pitcher) In case you couldn’t tell already, there’s plenty of solid softball pitching in the CS8 this season. Three different pitchers threw no-hitters last week, including one for Rochester. Taylor took care of business against the Lions, throwing a five inning no hitter vs. Lanphier with ten strikeouts in a Rocket victory.
Kahlil Wassell (New Berlin sprinter) The Pretzel junior won the 60 yard dash in 6.98 seconds and the 400 yard dash in 52.02 seconds at the Illinois Prep Top Times meet on Saturday. And if two first place finishes wasn’t enough, Wassell also finished in second place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.98 in the 1A division.
Ryan Roscetti (Riverton pitcher) The Hawks have been flat out on fire to start the baseball season and Ro is a big reason why. He went 2 for 3 with a home run & two RBI's against Lutheran High, and also earned the save on the bump in their 6-4 victory. Earlier in the week, Ro went 3 for 4 in Riverton’s 7-1 win over Maroa-Forsyth.
Maddie Klintworth (Glenwood soccer) The Titans might not have Kelly Graves and crew this season, but they do have Klintworth. The junior picked up a hat trick in Glenwood’s 4-0 win over Jacksonville to keep the Titans undefeated in CS8 play this season.
