Southeast Shows Toughness & Resolve To Advance To Sectional Final

Southeast trailed by as many as 10 points to Mahomet-Seymour, but the Spartans amped up their full court defensive pressure and started to wear down the Bulldogs for a come from behind 59-46 win to advance to the Taylorville sectional final.

Southeast senior, D'Angelo Hughes was pivotal for the Spartans, scoring a game high 24 points. Junior Isaiah Walton also came up huge, scoring 12 points, including two 3-pointers that gave the Spartans their first lead with just over seven minutes left in the game. Trevyon Williams also chipped in with eight points. The junior point guard left the game twice after banging knees, but returned and finished the game. Anthony Fairlee also contributed with eight points.

Southeast is competing in its first sectional since 2011. The Spartans haven't won a sectional since 1980. They will get that chance on Friday, against the winner of Lanphier – Champaign Central.
