Cliff Cameron spent 18 years as the Pleasant Plains boys basketball head coach. He led the Cardinals to a pair of 1A state titles in the two class IHSA system, amassed 406 wins to just 143 losses, and on Tuesday, that run came to an end in a 56-43 loss to St. Joseph Ogden in the 2A UIS Supersectional.
Pleasant Plains led 23-17 midway through the second quarter, but a late SJO run, capped by a touchdown pass caught and laid in by All-State caliber junior guard Brandon Trimble gave the Spartans a 24-23 lead at the half. Trimble finished with a game high 29 points.
In the third quarter, the Spartans got a stop on defense in the final seconds and pushed the ball ahead for a Jake Pence three pointer that turned what could have been a two point lead into a seven point advantage.
Cole Greer led Pleasant Plains with 18 points. Nik Clemens and Austin Finley both had 10.
