The Cyclones lost a two run lead in the top of the 7th inning, but didn’t let it spoil the party.  Ashton Dyche hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 8th to give SHG a 3-2 win and another regional title.

These two teams met twice during the regular season and the runs came in a bunches.  This time, it was anything but a slugfest.  SHG’s Whitney David kept the Railers off the scoreboard for the first six innings, while Lincoln’s Holly Davis did the same for the first five frames she threw.

The first runs came in the bottom of the 6th inning when Dyche hit a rocket to third base.  The throw to first would be wild, which alllowed Renee Abernathy to score and make it 1-0.  Two batters later MaKenna Butcher singled to center giving the Cyclones a 2-0 advantage.

Lincoln would rally in the bottom of the 7th.  After getting one run on a fielder’s choice, they tied the game on a wild pitch with two outs sending the game to extra innings.

That set the stage for Dyche, who blasted one to deep right center field sending Bree Derhake in from third with the winning run.

Lincoln finished their season with an overall record of 24-8.  SHG improved to 30-6 on the season and will play Mattoon in a sectional semi-final on Tuesday.
