Similar offenses with some very talented athletes mixed in will meet on Friday night in round one of the IHSA 1A state playoffs.
Out of the Sangamo conference, the 6-3 Athens Warriors led by senior quarterback Nick Hanner, powerful running backs Hunter Maxwell, Drayton Davis and Mason Reiff and senior wide receiver Devin Richardson hit the road to take on the Indians.
Pawnee (7-2), out of the Prairie State conference, are led by a pair of strong running backs senior Austin Galloway and junior Ethan Clarke. The Indians also have a quarterback-wide receiver combination that has proved to be lethal this season in Kolton Behrent and Trenton Eckert.
They meet Friday night at 7 p.m. in Pawnee to see who advances to Round 2.
