The Wassell-Led Pretzels Win New Berlin’s First 1A State Track Title In School History

What a day to be a Pretzel. New Berlin won its first 1A state track and field title in school history at O’Brien Stadium on the campus of Eastern Illinois, compiling 46 points to defeat second place, Peru, who finished with 32 points.

New Berlin’s relays took first place in both the 4×100 and the 4×200. Kahlil Wassell won the 400-meter dash and placed second in the 100 and 200-meter dashes to help lead the Pretzels to the historical achievement.

Other notable performances include, Connor Icenogle of Williamsville claiming first place in the 1A 100-meter dash, Heath Warren of Springfield High finishing fourth in the 3A 800-meter and DeArius Herrin of Lanphier finished third in the 2A 800.
