UIS Softball Sweeps Upper Iowa on Senior Day

UIS softball swept Upper Iowa on Senior Day Sunday, taking game one 2-0 before completing the doubleheader with a 7-2 win.

In the opener, the Prairie Stars scored in the third and fourth innings to back a complete-game shutout from Calista Stahlhut. Senior Jaden Watts scored the first run after reaching on a walk and coming home on a catcher’s error, while Bailey Masching later doubled and scored on an RBI single from senior Olivia DeLuca.

Stahlhut allowed just four hits over seven innings, striking out four to earn the win.

In game two, the team traded runs in the first, then the Prairie Stars put up three in the second inning, highlighted by RBI singles from Rachel McMullen and senior Rosie Bartletti.

UIS added on with a single run in the third and two more in the fifth to pull away. McMullen led the offense with three hits and three RBIs, while senior Chloe Scroggins scored twice.

Alexis Carroll earned the win in the circle, going the distance and allowing two runs.

After the games, UIS recognized seniors Koral Keehner, Addy Girard, Chloe Scroggins, Jaden Watts, Rosie Bartletti, Sophie Rivera, and Olivia DeLuca.

UIS finished the regular season 32-18 overall and 16-12 in conference play and will compete in the GLVC Tournament in East Peoria next week, with games beginning Wednesday, May 6.
