The UIS men’s track team opened its indoor season Saturday at the GVSU Bob Eubanks Open, leaning into its strength in the distance events.
Colin Graham turned in one of the day’s top performances for the Prairie Stars, placing 10th in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:31.05. He was one of 10 UIS runners competing in the event, as freshman Charlie Borlin finished second among UIS runners, placing 18th in 8:44.79.
Freshmen Chase Cooley and River Derby led UIS in the 800 meters, finishing sixth and seventh, respectively, with Cooley clocking 2:00.74 and Derby close behind at 2:02.43. Both runners doubled back in the mile, joining senior Will McGonigal, who paced the Stars in the event with a 27th-place finish in 4:24.41.
UIS rounded out the distance slate with additional appearances in the mile and 3,000 meters, gaining valuable early-season experience across a deep lineup.
