The SHG Cyclones methodically put away the Southeast Spartans for a 51-31 win in the first game and the Springfield High Senators ran the Lanphier Lions out of gas in the second half for a 66-52 win on night one of the girls City basketball tournament.
The Cycs got out to an early lead thanks to the three ball and were able to hold the Henry sisters in check and went on a run to end the third quarter led by Katie McClean to put the game away.
Springfield High had some trouble with Jeniya Griffin and the Lions but a big lead heading into the second quarter held serve thanks to a big first half from Kyra Webster and a strong showing from sophomore Ozzy Erewele in the second half.
On Wednesday night, SHG will take on Lanphier at 6 p.m. followed by Springfield High against Southeast.
The City Tournament will wrap up on Thursday with Southeast taking on Lanphier at 6, followed by the top two seeds Springfield High against SHG.
