LLCC: Loggers Come up Short

Illinois Central College – 73
Lincoln Land – 66

The Lincoln Land men’s basketball dropped an MWAC contest to the Cougars of Illinois Central College 73-66.

Lincoln Land blew the Cougars out of the water earlier this year in a 72-52 contest back on January 20th. In that contest, the Loggers led nearly wire to wire and the final of 20 was closer than the contest felt at times. This game proved quite different. Neither team established much of an advantage for much of the game. In the first half, the game was played within a 10-point window as both teams took turns getting up by as high as 5, but never anymore. The halftime break saw Lincoln Land slightly ahead 33-30. The second half remained much of the same until the final 4:00. Tied at 57 ICC rattled off 8 straight points. The 8-point advantage was the highest on the evening and essentially put the contest away. Every time LLCC cut it to get within 5 or 6, ICC pushed it right back to 8. The final threat was under :10 remaining the Loggers got a three pointer to get within 4. ICC was able to get the ball in and was immediately fouled to seal the game at the line with two more free throws.

Axel Laby was a bright spot for Lincoln Land finishing with a team high 20 while also pulling down 7 rebounds, dishing out 7 assists, and coming away with 3 steals. Kyle Leonard also got to double digits for the fourth game in a row, ending with 12.

Lincoln Land falls back to an even .500 at 11-11. They stay home for their next contest, Wednesday night against conference opponent John Wood for their annual Homecoming game.
