Lincoln Land – 83
Illinois Wesleyan JV – 68
A second half surge and a career night from Camren Kincaid helped propel the Lincoln Land Loggers men’s basketball team to a 83-68 victory over the Titans JV of Illinois Wesleyan.
Like has been the story for many of the Logger previous games, the first half proved largely insignificant to the final outcome. Neither team held much of a lead with both teams only held a 3 point advantage. Combined the teams committed 19 turnovers, both teams shot the ball fairly well, but Illinois Wesleyan’s JV out-rebounded LLCC 16-9 and went 10-10 on the free throw line that helped keep them in the lead for much of the first half. Camren Kincaid knocked in a shot from near half court to give the Loggers the 36-34 advantage at half that proved to be a little of a spark for the Loggers.
The first few minutes of the second half played out much like the first. For each Loggers bucket, the Titans were able to put one in to keep it close. Eventually Lincoln Land turned up their defensive intensity and a quick 8-0 run put them up 49-41 with a little over 12:00 to go. Kincaid again provided the spark, this time with multiple buckets and a couple nice assists to push on the Logger effort. Once the advantage began to build, LLCC took advantage of their size with Nick Cook and Brandenn Robinson both putting in a couple buckets down low. Slowly an 8 point advantage became 13, then 16, and eventually 20. The Loggers got back in the win column ending on the right side of a 83-68 final.
Camren Kincaid led all scorers with a college career high of 26 points. Kincaid also had 9 of the 15 Logger assists on the night to just miss a double-double. Kincaid’s efforts didn’t stop there, with also pulling in 5 boards. Kyle Leonard had one of his best games of the year with 17 points and a team and career high 8 rebounds. Nick Cook got into double digits with 12 in one of his best scoring outputs so far this year.
Lincoln Land again has a quick turnaround when on Wednesday evening St. Louis Community College rolls into Cass Gymnasium to try to defeat the Loggers for the second time this year.
