The UIS men’s track & field team opened competition Thursday evening at the GLVC Outdoor Championships at Plaster Stadium in Bolivar, Missouri, with competitors in both the 1500-meter prelims and the 10,000-meter final.
In the 1500-meter prelim, Chase Cooley placed 19th in 4:16.
The 10,000-meter run featured a deep group of Prairie Stars, led by Matt Padilla, who earned a top-five finish in 5th place in 30:36. Joey Karlesky followed closely in 7th at 30:41, while Dom Cantarini took 12th in 31:36. Isaac Cortes finished 13th in 31:44.65, Charlie Borlin placed 18th in 32:19, and Garrett Wagoner rounded out the UIS lineup in 23rd at 32:54.
The meet continues Friday with the 800-meter prelims, before concluding Saturday with the Prairie Stars entered in the 5,000 meters and looking to advance to the final in the 800 meters.
