The UIS women’s track & field team opened competition Thursday evening at the GLVC Outdoor Championships at Plaster Stadium in Bolivar, Missouri, highlighted by a championship performance from Madelyn Miller-Ross.
Miller-Ross captured the GLVC title in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 35:09, an NCAA provisional mark. She has now claimed GLVC titles in cross country, the indoor 3,000-meter, and the outdoor 10,000-meter during her senior year, completing a sweep across all three championships. She now sets her sights on another appearance at the national meet.
Her performance marks the third conference title in the event in UIS program history, joining Taryn Christy, who won as both a freshman and junior-including a record-setting run in 2021.
In the women’s 1500-meter prelims, Josslyn Gaona placed 15th in 4:49, while Marissa Roggensackfinished 18th in 5:03. Gaona narrowly missed qualifying for Saturday’s final by just three seconds, and UIS will not have a representative in the event final.
The meet continues Friday, with UIS set to compete in the 800-meter prelims at 5:20 p.m., before action resumes Saturday.
