“The team delivered an outstanding performance over the final five holes to secure the win,” said head coach Josh Edison. “Danny had a phenomenal first day, Jake birdied two of his last three, and Vilgot, who was having a tough day, finished strong with three straight birdies to vault our team on the leaderboard. Julien and Sacha were steady throughout the tournament, anchoring a complete team effort. We edged out a very solid Quincy team that’s been playing great golf.”
UIS secured the team title by three strokes, finishing at 572 after opening and closing with rounds of 286. The Prairie Stars were tied with Quincy after the first round but pulled away late, while Quincy finished second at 575. UIS also finished ahead of NCAA Division II opponents Roosevelt and Purdue Northwest in the 14-team field.
Lamraski (71-70-141) earned the individual championship after finishing tied for first and winning the playoff. Julien Babineau (72-70-142) tied for fourth as a medalist finisher, while Vilgot Arleback(72-75-147) and Jake Baldin (76-71-147) both tied for 19th. Daniel Edwards (71-77-148) tied for 26th, Charles Prins (78-72-150) competed as an individual and tied for 36th, Sahachat Noosong(76-78-154) tied for 52nd as an individual, and Jacob LeBlanc (78-88-166) placed 80th in his UIS debut.
“I’m proud of this group,” added Edison. “I see their perseverance every day, and to watch them lock in down the stretch and get it done is something I won’t forget. Congratulations to Sacha on the individual title as well. He made a 35-footer to stay alive in a three-man playoff, then hit a wedge to four feet and converted for the win. Complete composure under pressure. This is a clear sign of where UIS golf is heading. The results are a reflection of the work these student-athletes put in every day.”
