The UIS women’s track and field team was represented by a pair of distance runners Friday evening at the John Thomas Terrier Classic, hosted by Boston University, with both athletes competing in the open 5,000 meters.

Senior Madelyn Miller-Ross delivered a standout performance, breaking her own school record in the indoor 5K with a time of 16:28.26. She finished eighth in Heat 1, placed 10th overall in the event, and was the top NCAA Division II finisher in a highly competitive field, which included competitors from Bryant, Colorado, and Tennessee.

Miller-Ross’s time currently ranks No. 12 nationally in NCAA Division II and No. 1 in the GLVC this season. The mark continues a strong start to her indoor campaign, as she has posted top-tier performances in both events she has contested so far this year.

Junior Marissa Roggensack also competed in the open 5,000 meters, finishing 13th in Heat 4 and 66th overall out of 91 runners with a time of 18:08.55. Roggensack’s run marked a personal best in the event and came despite being tripped up during the race. Friday’s meet was the first attempt at the distance this season for both UIS runners.

The John Thomas Terrier Classic served as one of the premier competition opportunities of the indoor season.
