UIS controlled the game on both ends of the floor in the lopsided home victory. The Prairie Stars set the tone early and never looked back, turning defensive pressure into consistent scoring opportunities on their home court.
Guard Kayla Rice led all scorers with 20 points to go along with a team-high six steals. Julia Mingus followed with 15 points, knocking down five of her six attempts from beyond the arc. Kennedy Osterman and Paula Strzelecki each pulled down eight rebounds to lead UIS on the glass, while Molly Knight added five assists as the Prairie Stars moved the ball effectively throughout the night.
“We shot the ball well and played together to get a total team win,” head coach Olivia Birt said. “We love playing at home and in front of our fans!”
UIS will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 17, hosting Southwest Baptist at 1:00 p.m. at TRAC for Faith and Family Day.
Thursday night’s home basketball games highlighted the UIS College of Public Affairs and Education (CPAE) as the campus partner, providing two CPAE students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience by writing the Prairie Stars’ game recaps.
