UIS’ release –
Illinois Springfield men’s basketball (9-4, 5-0 GLVC) defeated Indianapolis (5-7, 3-1 GLVC), 91-74, on Friday night at The Recreation and Athletic Center in a matchup of two unbeaten GLVC teams. The Prairie Stars connected on 15 three-pointers and recorded 20 assists while remaining perfect in conference play. The victory marked the first time in program history that UIS has opened GLVC play with a 5-0 record, a stretch that has included multiple games against top conference opponents.
The win also completed a doubleheader sweep for the Prairie Stars after the UIS women’s team earned a 60-50 victory earlier in the evening, marking the second GLVC doubleheader sweep of the season for Illinois Springfield.
Illinois Springfield opened the game with a strong shooting performance, pulling ahead early with three consecutive three-pointers, including one by Isaiah Davis that put UIS up 9-2. The Prairie Stars continued to build momentum offensively, extending the lead behind efficient perimeter shooting and strong rebounding. Davis capped the half with a putback in the final seconds as UIS carried a 47-29 advantage into the break.
Illinois Springfield maintained control to start the second half, highlighted by a layup from Alex Stell at 18:35 and a three-pointer from Adidas Davis at 17:17 to push the lead to 52-29. Jordan Rice played a key role in sustaining the lead, facilitating the offense with multiple assists on both perimeter shots and finishes at the rim.
Indianapolis attempted to close the gap with trips to the free-throw line and a late stretch of three-pointers, but the Prairie Stars answered consistently. A late dunk by Donaven Youngerhelped seal the outcome as UIS closed out the 91-74 victory. The Greyhounds outscored the Prairie Stars 45-44 in the second half, but Illinois Springfield’s early cushion proved decisive.
Britton Dutton led UIS with 17 points, converting all three three-point attempts and going 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Rice recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 assists. Isaiah Davisadded 14 points, knocking down three three-pointers and grabbing seven rebounds, while Tye Banks finished with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting and pulled down six rebounds.
Illinois Springfield improved to 9-4 overall and remained unbeaten in GLVC play at 5-0. Indianapolis fell to 5-7 overall and 3-1 in conference action.
“We came out very sharp on both ends,” head coach Matt Brock said. “I thought our defensive energy fed into the offensive end and our bench was really good, especially in the first half. Alex and Donaven defended the paint and rebounded really well.”
