SHG trailed Mahomet 21-17 with four minutes left in round one of the 5A playoffs. Then Cam Brinkman connected with Seamus O’Brien for a 78 yard touchdown to retake the lead and the Cyclones held on for the win. SHG had led by ten earlier but Mahomet took the lead with just under five minutes to play. O’Brien caught two touchdowns while Brinkman threw for all three Cyclone scores. SHG will play the winner of Joliet Catholic and Jacksonville in round two.
