Brogan Anderson (Taylorville Volleyball) The Tornadoes got the season started with a Route 29 rivalry game against Rochester on Monday. Anderson had some key plays as Taylorville picked up the 25-22, 25-23 victory. She had 16 digs and five assists in the win. Check out highlights of the game HERE.
Clara Brunner (Lutheran High Volleyball) Lutheran High started off the week with two conference victories then hosted the Crusader Classic. In the tournament Brunner led the Crusaders in kills and was named to the all-tournament team. In a 25-22, 14-25, 25-22 win over Springfield High, she picked up ten kills.
Braddock Cates (Williamsville Football) The Bullets had a late night on Friday after a lightning delay but it didn’t seem to affect the senior running back. Cates rushed for 191 yards on his way to three rushing touchdowns. He also picked up 53 yards on three receptions plus another touchdown. Ethan Fordham (Rochester Football) Rochester made the trip north on Saturday to take on Chicago Simeon and came home with a 35-14 victory. The Rockets got two touchdowns from Fordham including a 13 yard score mid fourth quarter to push the lead to three touchdowns. See the highlights of the Rockets’ win HERE.
Armanze Lewis (Springfield High Football) They had to wait a day thanks to the weather but on Saturday Springfield High hosted Champaign Central in week one action. Lewis started the season by scoring four touchdowns in the 44-12 victory. The senior running back rushed for 134 yards on 25 carries. Check out the highlights of the game HERE.
Briar Miller (Jacksonville Boys Soccer) Jacksonville hosted Quincy High in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday and picked up a big 2-1 victory. In the victory the senior goalie made some big saves to help hold the Jacksonville lead. Miller finished the game with six saves. Some highlights thanks to Chris Duerr HERE.
Clark Nelson (New Berlin Football) The Pretzels took home Grant’s Saber on Saturday with a 47-20 win over the Cardinals of Pleasant Plains. New Berlin held a 21-0 lead with 8 minutes left in the second quarter thanks to three Nelson touchdowns. He had two rushing touchdowns on the day plus a 73 yard punt return. Alexis Neumann (Glenwood Volleyball) The Titans picked up a big win on Thursday as they hosted Quincy High. In the 25-19, 26-24 win, Neumann led the way with 17 kills and three blocks. She also had 17 kills and three blocks in a three set loss to Normal U-High which saw two of the top 3A teams in the state battle. Highlights of the win over Quincy HERE.
Ryne Sheppard (Maroa Forsyth Football) Maroa Forsyth made the trip to Athens for a week one matchup between two of the top Sangamo teams. Sheppard helped lead the Trojans in the 47-14 win. He threw for 219 yards and three touchdowns. We have highlights of the big week one game HERE.
Levyn Snow (Normal U-High Volleyball) The battle between two of the top 3A volleyball teams in the state took place in Normal on Tuesday as the Pioneers picked up a 2-1 win over the Glenwood Titans. Snow led the way for the Pioneers with ten kills, three aces and two blocks. Check out the action from the three set battle HERE.
Kendall Stotlar (Sacred Heart Griffin Volleyball) The Cyclones started off the Central State Eight season with a three set victory over Lincoln on Tuesday. After the Railers won the first set, SHG came back for the 2-1 victory. Stotlar scored five straight points in the second set which helped give the Cyclones momentum on their way to the win. Garrett Timm (Williamsville Boys Soccer) Williamsville hosted Rochester on Wednesday night in a battle between two of the top teams in the area. The Bullets picked up the 3-0 victory over the Rockets with Timm in goal. He made six saves in the win to help preserve the shutout. Check out the highlights of the win HERE.
