LLCC: Loggers Split on Monday

G1 – ICC

Grant Pohlman hit two home runs and drove in four as the Loggers defeated Illinois Central College 6-1 on Monday. Pohlman homered in the third and first innings. The Loggers got on the board in the first inning after Pohlman hit a solo home run to center field. Pohlman homered to left field, scoring three runs in the bottom of the third for the Loggers.

Porter Conn earned the win for the Loggers. The starting pitcher allowed four hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out eight and walking three.

Gage Burdick took the loss for Illinois Central College. The starting pitcher went five innings, giving up five runs on two hits, striking out eight and walking three. Trey Carter appeared in relief for the Loggers.

The Loggers ran wild on the base paths, tallying four stolen bases for the game. The Loggers were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Pohlman made the most plays with 11. Luke Doty set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading Illinois Central College with two hits in three at bats. Doty stole two bases. G2 – ICC

Even though the Loggers collected 12 hits to Illinois Central College’s seven, they still fell 12-7 on Monday. Austin Adcock, Hunter Moser, Grant Pohlman, and Andrew Hendrickson each collected two hits for the Loggers. Despite the loss, the Loggers did collect 12 hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Illinois Central College had seven hits on the way to victory. A solo home run to center field by Luke Doty put Illinois Central College on the board in the top of the first. Illinois Central College added three runs in the second. Doty doubled, making the score 4-0. The Loggers made the score 4-2 in the bottom of the second inning when Adcock hit a solo home run to center field, and Evan Kochel hit into a double play, but one run scored. Illinois Central College scored one run in the top of the sixth on a solo home run to left field by Jake Stewart. The Loggers tied the game up in the bottom of the seventh thanks to two singles. The Loggers tied the game at five on a single by Adcock.

Illinois Central College took the lead in the top of the eighth. Stewart singled, scoring one run, to give Illinois Central College the advantage, 6-5. Kochel hit a sacrifice fly, which helped the Loggers tie the game at six in the bottom of the eighth. Illinois Central College flipped the game on its head in the top of the ninth, scoring six runs on one hit to take a 12-6 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Kyle Mack that drove in two.

Caleb Diver earned the win for Illinois Central College. They surrendered four hits and two runs over two innings, striking out one and walking one. Will Leman took the loss for the Loggers. The right-handed pitcher went two-thirds of an inning, allowing two runs on zero hits, striking out two and walking two. Zane Danielson stepped on the hill first for Loggers. The starting pitcher allowed four hits and five runs over six innings, striking out six and walking two. Cole Thomas stepped on the bump first for Illinois Central College. The starting pitcher gave up four hits and three runs over five innings, striking out three and walking three.

The Loggers accumulated 12 hits in the game. Adcock drove the middle of the lineup, leading Loggers with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-5 on the day. Doty went 2-for-4 at the plate as the outfielder led the team with five runs batted in. Doty, Stewart, and Mack each collected two hits for Illinois Central College. Illinois Central College had patience at the plate, accumulating 11 walks for the game. Doty, Griffin Roesch, and Kannon Kleine led the team with two free passes each. Illinois Central College turned two double plays in the game.
