LLCC: Loggers Split the Series with the Cobras

G1 – Parkland College

The Loggers topped Parkland College Cobras 4-0 on Sunday. The Loggers got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Payton Mugele was struck by a pitch, and Grant Pohlman hit into a fielder’s choice, each scoring one run. The Loggers added one run in the third after Mugele doubled.

Porter Conn earned the win for Loggers. The left-handed pitcher allowed one hit and zero runs over seven innings, striking out nine and walking four. Jaxon Christensen took the loss for Parkland College Cobras. The starting pitcher went four innings, giving up four runs on five hits, striking out five and walking three.

Mugele drove the middle of the lineup, leading Loggers with two runs batted in. The left-handed hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Andrew Randazzo and Mugele each collected two hits for Loggers. Randazzo stole two bases. Loggers stole five bases in the game.

Tylor Phommachanhom went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead Parkland College Cobras in hits.

G2 – Parkland College

The Loggers’s bats were strong against Parkland College Cobras on Sunday, but it wasn’t enough as the Loggers fell 13-9. Parkland College Cobras collected 11 hits, while the Loggers had eight. The Loggers got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Austin Adcock doubled, Payton Mugele hit a sacrifice fly, and Grant Pohlman doubled, each scoring one run. A single by Scott Newman gave Parkland College Cobras the lead, 4-3, in the top of the fourth.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Loggers went back into the lead after Wandel Campana singled, and Andrew Randazzo hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run. Tylor Phommachanhom singled on the sixth pitch of the at-bat, which helped Parkland College Cobras tie the game at five in the top of the sixth. Parkland College Cobras made the score 9-5 in the top of the seventh after Josh Outlaw tripled, scoring two runs, Phommachanhom grounded out, scoring one run, and Will Applegate doubled, scoring one run.

The Loggers tied the game in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a hit by a pitch, a walk by Campana, a hit by a pitch, and a hit by a pitch. A double by Michael Carrano Jr. gave Parkland College Cobras the lead, 10-9, in the top of the eighth.

Hunter Pudlo earned the win for Parkland College Cobras. The right-handed pitcher gave up zero hits and zero runs over one-third of an inning, striking out one and walking none. Trey Carter took the loss for the Loggers. The reliever went two innings, giving up four runs (one earned) on three hits, striking out three and walking two. Mark Wolak stepped on the bump first for the Loggers. The right-handed pitcher gave up six hits and four runs (three earned) over five innings, striking out five and walking none. Cale Coursey stepped on the bump first for Parkland College Cobras. The starting pitcher gave up two hits and three runs over one inning, striking out two and walking two.

Adcock and Pohlman each collected two hits for the Loggers. Campana and Randazzo each drove in two runs for the Loggers. The Loggers had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating 10 walks for the game. Campana, Nolan McMasters, Randazzo, and Caleb Royer led the team with two walks each.

Parkland College Cobras collected 11 hits in the game. Number seven hitter, Outlaw, showed the depth of Parkland College Cobras’s lineup, by leading them with three hits in four at bats. Newman, Phommachanhom, Outlaw, and Jacob Filip each drove in two runs for Parkland College Cobras. Applegate collected two hits for Parkland College Cobras in four at bats. Parkland College Cobras didn’t commit a single error in the field.

Loggers play at home on Friday against Lewis and Clark in their next game.
