LLCC: Loggers Season Comes to an End in the National Tournament

The Lincoln Land women’s basketball season came to an end at the NJCAA National Tournament Friday afternoon. #7 Morton College defeated the #9 Loggers 86-57.  Morton College got off to a hot start by hitting three 3 point baskets for a 27-14 lead after one period of play. Whitney Rumbold was the lone bright spot for the Logger offense. The Freshman scored 10 points in the quarter to lead Lincoln Land.

The Logger’s had their best scoring output during the second quarter. Marley Smith registered 6 points while had 4 of Lincoln Lands 19. Despite the offensive surge, Morton still managed to extend their lead to 49-33 at the half.

The third quarter provided a tightly contested affair. Morton still managed to outscore Lincoln Land 17-16 but the Loggers pulled to within 10 midway through the period. Unfortunately, the Loggers were never able to cut the lead to single digits. Once again, Whitney Rumbold along with Megan Harrell provided some firepower by scoring 7 points apiece.

The last opportunity to cut into Morton’s 66-49 lead during the final frame was unsuccessful. The Logger offense could only manage to score 8 points and their season came to an end 86-57.
Lincoln Land finished the National Tournament 1-2. The Loggers tied the school record for wins with a record of 28-8.
