The #9 ranked Lincoln Land Loggers played host to MWAC rival Illinois Central College and scored a decisive 65-40 victory. The first quarter was an evenly matched affair as both teams traded baskets. Lincoln Land managed a slim two-point advantage with a score of 18-16. The second quarter was where the Loggers stepped up the intensity. The Loggers, who typically use and full court aggressive pressing defense, changed tempo and focused on a half court penetration containing defense. The Loggers manage to hold Illinois Central to just two points in the period and held a 32-18 half time lead.
The second half saw the Loggers aggressively attack Illinois Central and get to the free throw line. Lincoln Land out scored the Cougars 19-10 in the period. The final frame saw the Loggers dominate the Cougars on the glass. Each time the Loggers pulled down a rebound, they reset their offense and chewed up clock. Lincoln Land out rebounded Illinois Central 50-30 on the game. The final score was a decisive 65-40 victory. “I’m so proud of our effort, toughness, and intelligence today” said coach Chad Jones. “Every single kid on our roster contributed to the victory today, every one.”
Lincoln Land filled the stat sheet on the afternoon. Four Loggers scored in double digits. Freshman Megan Harrell lead the Loggers with 19 points. Sam Lindhorst and Marley Smith both contributed 15, while Whitney Rumbold scored 11. Three Loggers had double figure rebounds. Whitney Rumbold pulled down a team high 14. Marley Smith grabbed 13 and Megan Harrell pulled down 12.
The Loggers improve to 23-3 on the season and 9-1 in MWAC play. The Loggers will play host to John Wood College on Wednesday at 5:30 pm.
