A 30 point first quarter propelled the 11th ranked Lincoln Land women’s basketball team to a 74-53 victory over Olney Central College. The win gave Lincoln Land its 20th win of the season.
Avrie Schmidt scored every way possible in the first quarter. The 5’10 Sophomore hit a 3, a 2 pt. field goal plus an and one totaling 10 points. Freshman San Lindhorst was also instrumental in the big first quarter output. Sam had a couple of steals to go along with 8 points.
Despite the Loggers being up 30-13, the Blue Knights fought back in the second frame. Olney made a run to outscore Lincoln Land 18-11 to cut the deficit to 41-31 at intermission.
After regrouping during halftime, the Logger’s Megan Harrell came out with a strong offensive performance. The Freshman hit two tough shots from the field and went 2-2 from the free throw line. Whitney Rumbold added four points in the quarter to give Lincoln Land a 56-42 lead after 3 quarters of play.
Lincoln Land finished strong in the final frame. The Loggers went 6-6 from the free throw line. Marley Smith, Whitney Rumbold and Avrie Schmidt each went 2-2 from the line. Schmidt and Sam Lindhorst both hit a three point basket as the Loggers outscored Olney 18-11 to secure the win.
Five Loggers reached double digits in scoring. Avrie Schmidt lead the way with 19 points. Sam Lindhorst had 16, Whitney Rumbold 14, Megan Harrell 12 and Marley Smith 10. Nolee Sollars finished with a made three point basket.
Lincoln Land will get back to conference play Saturday, Feb. 10 as they travel to face the Spoon River Snappers in a 1:00 pm contest.
The Loggers improve to 20-3 overall.
