LLCC: Logger Men Drops one to #8 Parkland

Parkland – 71
Lincoln Land – 60

The Parkland Cobras came in to Cass Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon and sprinted away in the second half from the Lincoln Land Loggers and left with a 71-60 victory.

Saturday’s game featured a decent amount of Central Illinois’ talent and with it came a big crowd and a big game. Lincoln Land stepped up to the challenge in the first half. The Loggers were up 9 halfway through the first half when Parkland responded with a 7-0 run to get right back to a one score game. Lincoln Land however immediately pushed their lead back out to 7 and looked like they had found their own responses to a run. Unfortunately, that was not the case, Parkland responded with an 8-0 run to take their first lead since early in the contest at 22-21. The two exchanged the lead back and forth two more times to the break. Lincoln Land gave up 2 free throws at the buzzer, but went in to the half break up 31-27.

The Loggers held on to the lead for much of the second half, but with 11:00 remaining LLCC held not a slim 47-45 lead. That lead disappeared on the next possession and was the last lead the Loggers held on the day. Parkland took an advantage a few possessions later and then lead 55-51 with just 4:00 remaining. This stretch proved to be the game. Parkland ripped off a 16-5 run over the next 2:30 and led by a game high of 15 with 1:12 remaining. Although Lincoln Land was able to get the deficit down, the 10 at the end was the closest they were able to get. Parkland ended the game with the 71-60 advantage, ending the last 3:45 on a 16-7 run.

Dane Foster and Jermontre Young have both had multiple nice scoring games over the last few games and stayed hot on Saturday as Foster led the Loggers with 15 and Young added 12 for the second game in a row. Camren Kincaid also ended with 12. Kincaid also pulled in 6 boards and passed out 4 assists.

The Loggers drop to 8-9 on the season and 3-2 in MWAC play.  They have one of their few remaining non-conference games on Monday at home against Carl Sandburg.
