LLCC: Women’s Basketball Cruise to Win over Spoon River

The Lincoln Land women’s basketball team played host to Mid-West Athletic Conference foe Spoon River College and won a decisive victory 86-40.

The Loggers jumped to an early lead and never looked back.  Lincoln Land lead 25-11 at the end of the first period behind eight points from Marley Smith.  The second quarter was much of the same and the Loggers lead 47-24 at the half.  Spoon River managed to out score the Loggers 15-14 in the third quarter.  However, the Loggers ended the brief success Spoon River was having by out scoring the Snappers 25-1 in the final period.

All nine Loggers dressed for the game saw significant minutes and scored.  Lincoln Land was led by Megan Harrell and Marley Smith who each scored 20 points.  Whitney Rumbold scored 13 points off the bench in limited minutes.  Smith pulled down a team high 10 rebounds.  Rilee Riggs had a season high 9 rebounds.  Harrell, Schmidt, and Rumbold all grabbed 7 rebounds.  Freshman Sam Lindhorst had 8 steals to lead the Loggers and Dubin Thomas dished out a game high 8 assists.

The Loggers improve to 13-2 on the season and 1-0 in MWAC play.  Lincoln Land will play a rare non-conference game tomorrow at 1pm vs Carl Sandburg College.
