The Lincoln Land women’s basketball team hosted NJCAA D1 Rend Lake College in a rare Friday night home game and beat the Warriors 81-52. Lincoln Land played outstanding defense in the first half and allowed Rend Lake to just six points in each of the first two quarters. “We did some great things defensively in the first half” stated Logger coach Chad Jones. Lincoln Land struggled from the field in the first half going 1-11 from the 3pt line and 9-30 from the field. However, the Loggers were dominant on the glass though and scored many second chance points. Megan Harrell had seven first half rebounds.
The Loggers started the second half on fire behind Harrell and Whitney Rumbold. Lincoln Land scored 28 points in the third quarter. “I think conditioning became an issue for Rend Lake. I was happy our girls didn’t let up” said Jones. Lincoln Land scored 51 points in the second half to eventually win by a final score of 81-52.
The Loggers were lead in scoring by freshman Megan Harrell who poured in 26 points on 10-19 shooting. Harrell also lead the Loggers in rebounding with 13. Marley Smith contributed 13 points and Whitney Rumbold scored 12. Smith again had a double-double with 10 rebounds. The freshman duo of Sam Lindhorst and Durbin Thomas each dished out seven assists to lead the Loggers. Lincoln Land improves to 9-1 on the season and will play at home next Thursday at 5:30pm.
